Major Nor’easter Could Bury NYC In Two Feet Of Snow 

Tens of millions of people across the Northeast are waking up Monday to 2021’s first major snowstorm with up to two feet and whiteout conditions in certain areas.

NBC News meteorologist Bill Karins said the Tri-State area could see the largest snowstorm in half a decade. Karins forecasts New York City could receive up to 20 inches of snow or more.

National Weather Service’s Official Snowfall Predictions  

On Sunday, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city’s school system would be closed. He said appointments for coronavirus vaccinations would be put on hold and rescheduled.

“The last thing we want to do is urge our seniors to come out in the middle of a storm like this,” de Blasio said.

He tweeted Sunday night:

“Beginning 6 AM tomorrow, February 1, nonessential travel will be restricted in New York City. This winter storm will be dangerous with heavy snowfall and strong winds. If you can stay home, stay home. Keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles.”

The 48-hour weather event could result in 1 to 2 inches per hour of snow and 40-50 mph wind gusts on Monday, indicating whiteout conditions are expected in certain areas. ABC7 meteorologist Jeff Smith said this system is a “rare snowstorm the likes of which we see every five to 10 years.”

Fourth Nor’Easter Of The Month Could Paralyze North East (Again)

Just when you thought it was the first day of spring…

Ed Vallee, head meteorologist at Vallee Weather Consulting LLC., warns of the fourth nor’easter this month — expected to slam into the North East on Wednesday:

“Another coastal storm will take shape Tuesday off the eastern seaboard. Intermittent snow and mixed precipitation will impact the Mid-Atlantic Tuesday then spread into New England Wednesday. Snow will be heavy at times Wednesday into Wednesday night, allowing it to periodically accumulate on roadways despite the higher March sun angle. Snow may impact morning commutes in Baltimore and DC, then impact evening commutes from Philadelphia to Boston Wednesday with low visibility and snow covered roads.

Coastal flooding, gusty winds, and heavy, wet snow is expected which, in tandem, may lead to power outages in some locations. Snowfall will wind down from southwest to northeast Wednesday night.”

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued winter storm advisories, warnings, and watches for most of the Ohio-Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and North East up to Boston, Massachusetts (as of Tue, Mar. 20, 2018 at 7:50:08 am EDT) for Wednesday into Thursday.

“The fourth NorEaster for this month is expected to bring up to a foot of snow along the spine of the Appalachians, across northern New Jersey, and into the lower Hudson Valley of New York during the next couple of days,” said NWS.

7 Dead After “Monster Nor’easter” Pummels East Coast, Leaving Floods, Outages

At least seven people were dead after a “monster nor’easter” – officially called Winter Storm Riley – slammed the northeastern United States on Saturday, leaving a trail of flooded streets, power outages and brutal winds.

A 6-year-old boy died in Virginia after a tree fell on his family’s home, officials said. Others include an 11-year-old boy hit by a falling tree in New York state, a 57-year-old man in Upper Merion, Pennsylvania, hit by a tree while in his car and a 77-year-old woman struck by a branch outside her home in Baltimore.

According to Reuters, almost 2.4 million homes and businesses had no power in the Northeast and Midwest early on Saturday. Some utility companies warned customers that power might not be restored until later in the day or Sunday.

New York City saw a mix of rain, snow, sleet and winds that wrapped up by evening. Over 4 inches of rain fell in eastern Long Island and parts of eastern Massachusetts.
