Battleships And Helicopters Join Hunt For Missing Submarine: Sweden Prepares To “Use Weapons To Surface Sub” | Zero Hedge

Battleships And Helicopters Join Hunt For Missing Submarine: Sweden Prepares To “Use Weapons To Surface Sub” | Zero Hedge.

The hunt for missing October continues.

Recall that over the weekend, one of the less reported stories was that Sweden had deployed its various army, navy and air force units to hunt down what was reportedly a damaged Russian sub that had sunk in the Stockholm archipelago, something which Russia vehemently denied.

Since then, things have escalated and as both the FT and RIA reported, Swedish authorities declared a safety distance of 10,000 meters (5.4 nautical miles) from all military vessels taking part in the search for the alleged foreign sub.

According to the Swedish Expressen newspaper, air traffic over the search area has been suspended. Such a large area of Swedish airspace has not been cordoned off since the ’80s, the newspaper added. The fly ban will not affect passenger flights.

Sweden Deploys Army, Air Force, Navy Near Stockholm Over Reported Damaged Russian Sub; Moscow Denies | Zero Hedge.

Over the weekend, while the world was focusing on the threat of Ebola contagion in the US and around the globe, Sweden’s otherwise sleepy capital Stockholm found itself the location of a blitz military operation involving the Swedish Armed Forces, Navy, Army and Air Force, when late on Saturday, Swedish armed forces stepped up an operation — involving more than 200 men, stealth ships, minesweepers and helicopters — in an area about 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of the Swedish capital. The operation was initiated on Friday after the armed forces said they had been informed of a “man made object” in the water.

According to the Local.se, officials denied they were “submarine hunting,” calling the mobilisation- one of the biggest, barring purely training exercises, since the Cold War – an “intelligence operation”.
