Orwell Cancelled? Journalist Says “Vile” Author Aided Nazis
Orwell Cancelled? Journalist Says “Vile” Author Aided Nazis
“Orwell was a total fraud.”
OLIVER BUNIC/Getty Images
Despite being dead for 70 years, George Orwell may become the latest public figure to be cancelled after a left-wing journalist called him a “vile man” who aided the Nazis with his strident criticism of Stalinist Russia.
Yes, really.
“In addition to being a gov snitch, fraud George Orwell spent WWII demonizing the USSR as it defeated Nazism,” tweeted Ben Norman.
“As the Red Army sacrificed millions fighting Hitler, and as the Nazi regime shoved Jews into gas chambers, Orwell was writing Animal Farm. Vile man,” he added.
Norton followed up by denouncing the 1984 author as a “reactionary who hated communists more than fascists” before claiming Orwell “didn’t actually believe in free speech. He wanted to take away the free speech of communists. Orwell was a total fraud.”
Respondents pointed out that criticizing Stalinism, which killed multiple times more people than Nazism, doesn’t make one a fascist enabler.
“Orwell cancelled. Stop reading Orwell everybody. There is nothing you are allowed to learn from his books. Ben says,” tweeted Ryan McGoverne.
“This is my favourite cancellation yet. Top 10 of the last hour anyway,” said Alex Boyd.
Norman was also accused of historical inaccuracies.
“To believe this is to be completely ignorant of the history of WWII,” remarked one Twitter user. “Stalin was completely fine with everything Hitler was doing up until the Germans invasion of USSR in 1941. Also the Red Army was not alone in defeating the Nazis.”
To be fair to Norman, he does appear to be a supporter of free speech and an opponent of deplatforming.
However, this once again underscores how “cancel culture” is not merely just pushback on opinions considered to be “offensive”.
Orwell died in 1950 and his legacy as an icon of anti-authoritarianism has held firm over the last 70 years.

YouTube Censors Viral Video of Doctors Criticizing ‘Stay-at-Home’ Order
YouTube Censors Viral Video of Doctors Criticizing ‘Stay-at-Home’ Order
Deleted after racking up over 5 million views.
YouTube has censored a viral video in which two doctors criticized the logic of whether California’s stay-at-home coronavirus order is necessary.
The video, which had racked up over 5 million views, featured Dr. Dan Erickson and Dr. Artin Massihi, co-owners of Accelerated Urgent Care in Bakersfield, Calif.
In the clip, Erickson asserts that there is only a “0.03 chance of dying from COVID in the state of California,” prompting him to ask, “Does that necessitate sheltering in place? Does that necessitate shutting down medical systems? Does that necessitate people being out of work?”
Erickson also asked why fatalities were being counted as COVID-19 deaths when other ailments were actually more to blame.
“When someone dies in this country right now, they’re not talking about the high blood pressure, the diabetes, the stroke. They’re saying ‘Did they die from COVID?’” Erickson said. “We’ve been to hundreds of autopsies. You don’t talk about one thing, you talk about comorbidities. ER doctors now [say] ‘It’s interesting when I’m writing about my death report, I’m being pressured to add COVID. Why is that?”
The video was deleted late last night for “violating YouTube’s terms of service.”

Earlier this month, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki told CNN that the company would ban any video content that contradicted World Health Organization recommendations.
However, Wojcicki suggested that this would mainly be focused on banning information about fake cures, not questioning of government policy.
The video platform has also set about banning any content that claims 5G cell towers are linked to the coronavirus outbreak.

Canada: Police to Make Home Visits to Check Quarantine Compliance
Canada: Police to Make Home Visits to Check Quarantine Compliance
Violators face up to $1 million fine and three years in jail.
Police in Canada will visit the homes of people under coronavirus quarantine to check they are in compliance, with those who flout the law facing a fine of up to $1 million dollars and three years in jail.
Under the law, Canadians who have returned from abroad or are at risk of having been infected with COVID-19 are mandated to remain at home for 14 days.
Police say they will visit the homes of those under quarantine and advise them of the “potential consequences of non-compliance,” adding that violators could face “significant penalties, including fines and imprisonment.”
“The maximum fine for failing to comply with the quarantine is $750,000 and up to six months in prison, but those who put others at risk through could face harsher penalties: up to a $1-million levy and three years imprisonment,” reports Global News.ca.
The RCMP said that the checks would be facilitated through authorities first contacting persons by phone, text or e-mail and then having officers perform a “physical verification with the individual while maintaining physical distancing.”
Police say arrests of people flouting the law would be a last resort but that officers could issue them with a summons requiring them to appear in court.

Video: Philadelphia Man Dragged Off Bus by Police For Not Wearing Face Mask
Officers aggressively enforce COVID-19 lockdown rules.
A video clip shows a man being dragged off a bus by police in Philadelphia because he was not wearing a face mask to protect against coronavirus.
At least four officers are seen attempting to remove the man from the bus as he resists and is dragged onto the platform. One of the officers appears to verbally threaten to tase the man.
The man drops his phone before picking it up and recording the officers while demanding, “I want all your f**king badge numbers too.”
“They just kicked me off the f**king bus,” the man tells someone on the other end of the phone as the officers walk away.
The rule on wearing a face mask was brought in after at least 16 SEPTA employees working at different sites tested positive for coronavirus and three died.
Police are also checking if riders are making essential journeys.
“We are going to enforce. Not only can an operator of a vehicle refuse a rider who doesn’t have a mask on, we will also have members of our transit police making sure,” general manager Leslie Richards told CBS 3.
Under Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s “stay at home” order, citizens can only leave their homes for “life-sustaining activities,” including buying food, medical supplies and exercising alone. Police can issue on the spot fines of $100 dollars to those who flout the rules.
UK Police Force Threatens to Search Shopping Baskets to Catch ‘Lockdown’ Violators
Forced to backtrack after public backlash.
A police force in the UK threatened to start searching people’s shopping baskets in order to catch coronavirus lockdown violators, but later had to backtrack following a public backlash.
Northamptonshire Police chief constable Nick Adderley prompted outrage after he appeared in a video to warn people who were buying unessential items at grocery stores that their purchases may be scrutinized by the authorities.
“We will not at this stage be starting to marshal supermarkets and checking the items in baskets and trolleys to see whether it’s a legitimate, necessary item but again be under no illusion, if people do not heed the warnings and the pleas that I’m making today, we will start to do that,” said Adderley.
Northamptonshire Police is among the worst performers in the country for bringing charges after cases of burglary. But its chief constable will damn well rummage through your shopping basket and find that incriminating can of air freshener if he wishes.
Adderley also said police checkpoints would be set up if people didn’t properly adhere to quarantine rules, warning that a “three-week grace period” in his county was over.
“If things don’t improve, and we don’t get the compliance we would expect, then the next stage will be road blocks and it will be stopping people to ask why they are going, where they’re going,” he said.
The police force later had to backtrack from Adderley’s comments, tweeting, “To clarify some suggestions made in the media, we absolutely will NOT be searching people’s shopping trolleys in Northamptonshire.”

Tucker Carlson: The WHO Helped China Cover-Up Coronavirus
Tucker Carlson: The WHO Helped China Cover-Up Coronavirus
And the U.S. media turned a blind eye.
Tucker Carlson exposed during a powerful monologue last night how the World Health Organization helped China cover-up the severity of coronavirus and how the U.S. media turned a blind eye.
The Fox News host noted how World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom “got his job with Chinese support after he covered up cholera outbreaks in his home country” of Egypt.
Tedros has denied the allegation, which centered around claims he had downplayed cholera epidemics in Ethiopia in 2006, 2009 and 2011 by passing them off as “acute watery diarrhea,” a symptom of cholera.
The United Nations later said that more lives could have been saved if the epidemic had been accurately labeled as cholera.
Carlson then accused Adhanom of setting the standard for corruption within the WHO by congratulating China for its “speedy” response to coronavirus in late January despite widespread evidence that China covered up the outbreak for over a month, lied about its severity and then silenced whistleblowers who tried to warn the world.
“Everything you just heard him say there was a lie,” said Carlson, highlighting an Australian 60 Minutes piece which features an expert explaining how China knew human to human transmission of COVID-19 had happened back in December.
Indeed, as we previously highlighted, on January 14th, the WHO was amplifying Chinese fake news that no human to human transmission of coronavirus had occurred.

Martial Law France: Citizens Have to Fill Out Form Every Time They Leave the Home
Martial Law France: Citizens Have to Fill Out Form Every Time They Leave the Home
Stopped by police to explain their reasons for breaking quarantine.
The coronavirus lockdown in France literally forces citizens to ‘show their papers’; They have to fill out a form explaining why they are outside and present it to police.
A translation of the form posted online shows how citizens have to provide their name, date of birth, address and declare their reason for leaving quarantine.
Travel to a workplace is allowed, but only if the individual can prove they don’t have the capacity to work from home.
Other reasons include purchasing “essential necessities in authorized establishments” (how this can be proven is unknown), visiting family for “compelling reasons,” assisting vulnerable people and traveling for medical reasons.
There also appears to be an exemption for exercise so long as it takes place locally and not with groups of people.
Videos posted online show people being stopped by police and asked to explain their reason for being outside. Those without paperwork have to fill it in on the spot and face fines of up to $148 if caught lying about their activities.
100,000 extra police have been deployed to patrol streets and enforce the lockdown.
Meanwhile, in Spain, authorities are using drones to yell at people who disobey quarantine.
A video clip from the BBC shows police telling people walking in a Madrid park to go home. This message is then amplified via a loudspeaker attached to the drone.

Former Supermarket Boss Warns of Potential Coronavirus “Food Riots,” Army Patrols
Former Supermarket Boss Warns of Potential Coronavirus “Food Riots,” Army Patrols
Grocery stores may have to take drastic measures.
Former Tesco supply chain director Bruno Monteyne warns that a large scale outbreak of coronavirus in the UK could lead to “food riots,” requiring the army to be used to guard supermarkets.
Monteyne said that supermarkets would have to resort to drastic measures and revert to “feed the nation status” under a worse case scenario.
He also cautioned that grocery stores would have trouble stocking shelves and delivering goods if their employees decided to self-isolate.
“Yes, it will be chaotic (and expect pictures of empty shelves),” wrote Mr Monteyne, “but the industry will reduce complexity to keep the country fed.”
He said that the army may need to be drafted in to guard stores and prevent disorder.
UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he was “confident” food supplies would not run out and that there was “absolutely no need” to panic-buy.
Hancock also claimed that supermarkets could deliver food to coronavirus patients who had self-isolated, although this claim was immediately put in doubt by one supermarket executive, who said he was “baffled” by the suggestion.
“Matt Hancock has totally made up what he said about working with supermarkets. We haven’t heard anything from government directly,” the executive said, adding, “I’m not sure the government can guarantee all food supply in all instances.”
A source at another supermarket told the BBC that there had been no detailed planning involving government departments about “ensuring uninterrupted food supplies.”
Panic buying continued across the UK today, with supermarket shelves of goods like hand sanitizer, toilet paper and medicine.
The number of coronavirus cases in the UK has now reached 163, with two deaths.
Harvard Professor Says 40-70 Per Cent of People Worldwide Will Be Infected With Coronavirus
Harvard Professor Says 40-70 Per Cent of People Worldwide Will Be Infected With Coronavirus
Says asymptomatic nature of virus means it “will ultimately not be containable.”
Harvard epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch says that the coronavirus will not be containable and that 40-70 of people worldwide will be infected.
In an article entitled You’re Likely to Get the Coronavirus, the Atlantic explains how the coronavirus is particularly dangerous because it may cause cause no symptoms at all in many carriers of the infection.
According to Harvard epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch, this contributes to his prediction that coronavirus “will ultimately not be containable.”
“Lipsitch predicts that, within the coming year, some 40 to 70 percent of people around the world will be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19,” reports the Atlantic.
The professor clarifies that this doesn’t mean all of those victims will become seriously ill and that “many will have mild disease, or may be asymptomatic.”
However, given the increasingly stringent measures being taken outside of China to stop the spread of the virus, including in Italy where people are being prevented from leaving towns, one wonders how severe the panic will be if there is a massive global pandemic.
As we highlighted earlier, with 165 cases reported in Italy, store shelves in some areas of the country are already beginning to empty.
Meanwhile, a World Health Organization adviser says that coronavirus could be the widely feared ‘Disease X’ that experts have been warning about for years.
“Whether it will be contained or not, this outbreak is rapidly becoming the first true pandemic challenge that fits the Disease X category, listed to the WHO’s priority list of diseases for which we need to prepare in our current globalised society,” wrote Prof Marion Koopmans.
