Specialist teams are racing against time to assess areas damaged by bushfires in the Adelaide Hills today as fire crews prepare for deteriorating weather conditions expected to hit again on Wednesday.
Fire crews will be sent in to burnt-out areas of the Adelaide Hills to assess the damage caused by the Sampson Flat bushfire, which continues to burn out of control.
South Australia Police have now confirmed 13 homes have been destroyed in the fire, one more than previously thought, but that number is expected to rise to more than 30.
Premier Jay Weatherill said there were more than 1,100 properties in the fire-affected area and authorities expected to have a better idea of the damage tally later today.
Crews were focusing on protecting pockets of homes at greatest risk, including by conducting back-burning operations.
