Flames ‘higher than rooftops’ as blaze threatens homes in Bullsbrook, WA
An out-of-control bushfire is raging in the Perth suburb of Bullsbrook with flames “higher than rooftops”, emergency services say.
Hundreds of firefighters are tackling the blaze, in the semi-rural area about 40 kilometres north-east of Perth.
The fire was reported at 9:20am and 5,500 hectares had been burned by 9:15pm.
The bushfire is moving at more than 2 kilometres per hour in a north-westerly direction.
It has jumped containment lines and is burning in the Gnangara Pine Plantation towards Wanneroo Road.
Ross Delaney from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said there are some areas where the fire is reigniting as fire crews try to move quickly to the front of the blaze.
“It’s very hot, very windy, the fire’s very fast moving and difficult to contain,” Mr Delaney said.
He said DFES is hoping that as the wind drops and humidity rises overnight firefighters will have a better chance of gaining control of the fire.
