Central Banks Are Trojan Horses, Looting Their Host Nations

Central Banks Are Trojan Horses, Looting Their Host Nations

Do central banks do something similar?

Economics professor Richard Werner – who created the concept of quantitative easing – has documented that central banks intentionally impoverish their host countries to justify economic and legal changes which allow looting by foreign interests.

He focuses mainly on the Bank of Japan, which induced a huge bubble and then deflated it – crushing Japan’s economy in the process – as a way to promote and justify structural “reforms”.

The Bank of Japan has used a heavy hand on Japanese economy for many decades, but Japan is stuck in a horrible slump.

But Werner says the same thing about the European Central Bank (ECB).  The ECB has used loans and liquidity as a weapon to loot European nations.

Indeed, Greece (more), ItalyIreland (and here) and other European countries have all lost their national sovereignty to the ECB and the other members of the Troika.

ECB head Mario Draghi said in 2012:

The EU should have the power to police and interfere in member states’ national budgets.

“I am certain, if we want to restore confidence in the eurozone, countries will have to transfer part of their sovereignty to the European level.”

“Several governments have not yet understood that they lost their national sovereignty long ago. Because they ran up huge debts in the past, they are now dependent on the goodwill of the financial markets.”

A Loophole Allows Banks – But Not Other Companies – to Create Money Out of Thin Air

A Loophole Allows Banks – But Not Other Companies – to Create Money Out of Thin Air

The central banks of the United States, England, and German – as well as 2 Nobel-prize winning economists – have all shown that banks create money out of thin air … even if they have no deposits on hand.

The failure of most governments and most mainstream economists to understand this fact – they instead believe the myth that people make deposits at their bank, and these deposits are then lent out to new borrowers – is the main cause of our rampant inequality and economic problems.

But how do banks actually make loans before they have sufficient deposits on hand?

Economics professor Richard Werner – the creator of quantitative easing – noted in September that the field of economics has been lost in the woods for an entire century because it has failed to understand how banks actually create money.

Professor wrote an academic paper in 2014 concluding:

What banks do is to simply reclassify their accounts payable items arising from the act of lending as ‘customer deposits’, and the general public, when receiving payment in the form of a transfer of bank deposits, believes that a form of money had been paid into the bank.

***

The ‘lending’ bank records a new ‘customer deposit’ and informs the ‘borrower’ that funds have been‘deposited’ in the borrower’s account.  Since neither the borrower nor the bank actually made a deposit at the bank—nor, in connection with this transaction, anyone else for that matter, it remains necessary to analyse the legal aspects of bank operations. In particular, the legality of the act of reclassifying bank liabilities (accounts payable) as fictitious customer deposits requires further, separate analysis.

Why the Fed Is WRONG About Interest Rates

Why the Fed Is WRONG About Interest Rates

Economics prof Steve Keen – who called the Great Recession before it happened – points out today in Forbes that the Fed’s rate dashboard is missing crucial instrumentation:

The Fed will probably hike rates 2 to 4 more times—maybe even get the rate back to 1 per cent—and then suddenly find that the economy “unexpectedly” takes a turn for the worse, and be forced to start cutting rates again.

This is because there are at least two more numbers that need to be factored in to get an adequate handle on the economy: 142 and 6—the level and the rate of change of private debt. Several other numbers matter too—the current account and the government deficit for starters—but private debt is the most significant omitted variable in The Fed’s toy model of the economy. These two numbers (shown in Figure 2) explain why the US economy is growing now, and also why it won’t keep growing for long—especially if The Fed embarks on a period of rate hiking.

Figure 2: The two key numbers The Fed is ignoring

[T]he dilemma this poses for The Fed—a dilemma about which it is blissfully unaware—is that a sustained growth rate of credit faster than GDP is needed to generate the magic numbers on which it is placing its current wager in favor of higher interest rates.

The Fed, along with all mainstream economists, dismisses this argument on the basis that the level of private debt doesn’t matter to the macroeconomy: for every debtor who can spend less because of higher rates, there is a saver who can spend more, so the two effects cancel out.

QE Inventor: It’s EASY to Create a Full-Blown Recovery, But Central Banks Chose to Make Banksters Rich Instead of Helping Main Street

QE Inventor: It’s EASY to Create a Full-Blown Recovery, But Central Banks Chose to Make Banksters Rich Instead of Helping Main Street

QE Is a Sham

Richard Werner (economics professor at University of Southampton) is the inventor of quantitative easing (QE).

Werner previously said that QE has failed to help the economy. (Former long-time Fed chair Alan Greenspan agrees.  Numerous academic studies confirm this. And see this.)

But Werner is now taking off the gloves …

He said recently:

  • It’s easy for central banks to take steps which would quickly create “full-blown recovery” for the economy
  • But the central bankers are instead choosing to act in a way which creates massive profits for the big banks, instead of stabilizing the economy. Werner blames the revolving door between central bankers and private bankers
  • The central banks have twisted the whole concept of easing … pretending that they’re trying to help the economy, when they’re doing something else entirely
  • Credit should be extended to the productive economy – businesses which create goods and services – and not to financial speculators or high levels of consumer debt.  Extending credit to small businesses former creates prosperity; lending to financial speculators only leads to economic instability and soaring inequality; and when too high a percentage of lending goes to luxury consumer consumption, it’s bad for the economy
  • Banks create money and credit out of thin air when they make loans (background)
  • It’s a myth that interest rates drive the level of economic activity. The data shows that rates lag the economy

Indeed, economists also note that QE helps the rich … but hurts the little guy. QE is one of the main causes of inequality (and see this and this). And economists now admit that runaway inequality cripples the economy. So QE indirectly hurts the economy by fueling runaway inequality.
