Why Governments Love Terrorism “Wars”

Why Governments Love Terrorism “Wars”

Telltale Signs

Dow down a little on Tuesday. Gold almost unchanged. Oil kept slipping.

From Bloomberg:

“Oil fell below $45 a barrel amid speculation that US stockpiles will increase, exacerbating a global supply glut that’s driven prices to the lowest in more than 5½ years.

Oil slumped almost 50% last year, the most since the 2008 financial crisis, as the US pumped at the fastest rate in more than three decades and OPEC resisted calls to cut production.

Goldman Sachs said crude needs to drop to $40 a barrel to “re-balance” the market, while Societe Generale also reduced its price forecasts.”

We’re studying the drop in the oil price. Is it an isolated phenomenon – the product of fracking technology, petro politics and other special circumstances? Or is it, too, a feature of the worldwide credit bubble?

We will write up our conclusion in this month’s Bill Bonner Letter. But you can probably guess. The more we look, the more we find telltale signs of the credit bubble at every accident and crime scene.

Through a Glass, Darkly

Tomorrow, we’ll start a new series on practical investing. Today, let’s look further at how the global credit bubble has distorted investment markets, perverted the economy and corrupted our government. They all now depend on something that should never have happened… and can’t continue for much longer.

Hardly a day goes by that we don’t squint through a glass, darkly, to try to see what the end of the credit expansion will mean for stocks, bonds and other asset classes. Today, we look at what it will mean for the US Empire of Debt.

Typically, empires succeed by conquest. They take property… women… slaves. The loot is then parceled out like a federal budget – with big portions for the honchos and cronies… and lesser portions to the foot soldiers.

Empire v Mere State | Armstrong Economics

Empire v Mere State | Armstrong Economics.

QUESTION: Marty, your insight into the failure of Austrian and Keynesian economics was really eye opening. At your conference you said that Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand applied internationally not just domestically. I believe I have reached the level of understanding you have been teaching us. It is indeed global and clearly everything is connected. Is China now in the early stage of Rome when it was growing in the shadow of the Greeks?

ANSWER: Absolutely.China is in the current growth stage. It will take time. It took Rome 72 years to complete the second phase of monetary growth. Its first silver and gold coinage was struck in Greek denominations illustrating that the Greeks were still the financial capital of the world. Like an emerging market nation today who issues debt in dollars to facilitate their economy, the Romans adopted the Greek monetary system to facilitate trade.

Previously, the Roman monetary system began with bronze, for it was the metal of tangible value since it could be made into a plow or a weapon. Bronze coinage, known as Aes Grave, appeared during the 4th century BC and that standard weight system is still with us today. The Roman As was one pound and this was divided into 12 units called “uncia” or ounces.

oftwominds-Charles Hugh Smith: What Choice Do We Have?

oftwominds-Charles Hugh Smith: What Choice Do We Have?.

The bottom line for the vast majority of us is that there is an extremely high price to be paid for independence from fealty to the State or Corporate America.

It’s jolly good fun to discuss alternatives to the doomed status quo, but what choice do most of us have to participating in the current system, even if we loathe it? The lack of choice is of course a key characteristic of the status quo– if alternatives were plentiful, how many would opt out of Corporate America and the Financial Nobility’s manor house of debt servitude?

The absence of alternatives results from several interacting dynamics. The first is false choice, the illusion of choice that enables the Powers That Be to claim we live in a democracy that is also a meritocracy where anyone can rise to the top if they follow the prescribed pathway: a four-year university degree, followed by a graduate degree, and so on.

The political slaughterhouse has two entrances: Democratic and Republican. Nothing about the system changes regardless of which door you enter. “Democracy” is a false choice in a nation in which the big banks order their politico flunkies, toadies and lackeys to do their bidding: Fed Vice Chairman Shocked At Wall Street Influence After Jamie Dimon “Whips” Congressional Votes.

The Rutherford Institute :: The Game Is Rigged: Why Americans Keep Losing to the Police State

The Rutherford Institute :: The Game Is Rigged: Why Americans Keep Losing to the Police State.

“The truth is that the State is a conspiracy designed not only to exploit, but above all to corrupt its citizens.”—Leo Tolstoy

My 7-year-old granddaughter has suddenly developed a keen interest in card games: Go Fish, Crazy Eights, Old Maid, Blackjack, and War. We’ve fallen into a set pattern now: every time we play, she deals the cards, and I pretend not to see her stacking the deck in her favor. And of course, I always lose.

I don’t mind losing to my granddaughter at Old Maid, knowing full well the game is rigged. For now, it’s fun and games, and she’s winning. Where the rub comes in is in knowing that someday she’ll be old enough to realize that being a citizen in the American police state is much like playing against a stacked deck: you’re always going to lose.

The game is rigged, and “we the people” keep getting dealt the same losing hand. Even so, we stay in the game, against all odds, trusting that our luck will change.

The problem, of course, is that luck will not save us. The people dealing the cards—the politicians, the corporations, the judges, the prosecutors, the police, the bureaucrats, the military, the media, etc.—have only one prevailing concern, and that is to maintain their power and control over the country and us.

It really doesn’t matter what you call them—the 1%, the elite, the controllers, the masterminds, the shadow government, the police state, the surveillance state, the military industrial complex—so long as you understand that while they are dealing the cards, the deck will always be stacked in their favor.

The New World Order: Does It All Just Boil Down To A Battle For Your Soul?

The New World Order: Does It All Just Boil Down To A Battle For Your Soul?.

From its very inception, the Leninist/Marxist ideology of the Soviet Union made it a central priority to dispel and subjugate religious and spiritual expression. The state was “god.” No other god could be allowed to flourish, for if the people were given license and freedom of belief in something beyond themselves and beyond the establishment, they would retain a sense of rebellion. The collectivist philosophy requires the utter destruction of all competitors; otherwise, it can never truly prevail.

Atheism became the cult of choice among the communists, for in an atheist world there is nothing beyond the veil. There is no greater goal and no inherent self. There is no true individualism, only self interest (not the same thing), the trappings of environmental circumstances, and the constant substantiation of the greater good. By extension, there is no inborn moral compass or conscience, only the social fashions and mores of the moment. In such a world, tyrants reign supreme because atheism allows relativism to flourish; and any crime, no matter how heinous, can be rationalized.  Beyond this, if you know and study the real history of the rise of communism, you know through great researchers like Antony Sutton that the very fabric of the system would never have existed without the monetary and military aid of international financiers (i.e. the NWO).

The atheist position uses the same arguments I have just made as a reason to remove religion and spirituality from our cultural influences. And in some respects, atheists are right. Religion is a tool that can be exploited to manipulate the masses. Any system of belief that is faith-based can be misinterpreted and abused in order to lure unwitting dupes and mindless followers into the fray of an engineered disaster. Atheists commonly argue that it is the encumbering nature of faith that causes mankind to destroy itself in the name of zealotry and self-righteous ignorance.
