Warning as Microplastics Escape Gut to ‘Infiltrate’ Brain

Microplastics are everywhere—in our food, our water and even the air. In fact, by some estimates we ingest about a credit card’s worth of plastic every single week. But what actually happens when these tiny plastic particles get inside our bodies?

Microplastics are any plastics smaller than 5 millimeters (0.2 inches) long. They are often found in industrial waste and beauty products but can also form larger pieces of plastic breakdown over time. Many of these plastic pieces end up in our oceans, which are estimated to contain somewhere between 50 trillion and 75 trillion pieces of micro- and larger plastics, according to UNESCO’s Ocean Literacy Portal.

“They appear to be everywhere,” said Eliseo Castillo, an associate professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of New Mexico, in a statement.

The widespread nature of these plastic particles is particularly concerning as the chemicals they contain have been shown to disrupt our body’s natural release of hormones, potentially increasing our risk of reproductive disorders and certain cancers. They can also carry toxins on their surface, like heavy metals.

Previous research has shown that microplastics might affect the balance of healthy bacteria in our guts. But according to research by Castillo and his team, these particles don’t just stay put in our digestive systems.

In a study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, Castillo and his colleagues exposed a group of mice to microplastics in their drinking water, equivalent to the concentrations we are exposed to on a daily basis.

After four weeks, the team found that these microplastics had extended far beyond the mice’s guts, infiltrating tissues in their livers, kidneys and even their brains.

Journalist: Newsweek Suppressed OPCW Scandal And Threatened Me With Legal Action

Journalist: Newsweek Suppressed OPCW Scandal And Threatened Me With Legal Action

Newsweek journalist has resigned after the publication reportedly suppressed his story about the ever-growing OPCW scandal, the revelation of immensely significant plot holes in the establishment Syria narrative that you can update yourself on by watching this short seven-minute video or this more detailed video here.

“Yesterday I resigned from Newsweek after my attempts to publish newsworthy revelations about the leaked OPCW letter were refused for no valid reason,” journalist Tareq Haddad reported today via Twitter.

“I have collected evidence of how they suppressed the story in addition to evidence from another case where info inconvenient to US government was removed, though it was factually correct,” Haddad said. “I plan on publishing these details in full shortly. However, after asking my editors for comment, as is journalistic practice, I received an email reminding me of confidentiality clauses in my contract. I.e. I was threatened with legal action.”

Haddad added that he is now seeking legal advice and looking into the possibility of whistleblower protections for himself, and said at the very least he will publish the information he has while omitting anything that could subject him to legal retaliation from his former employer.

“I could have kept silent and kept my job, but I would not have been able to continue with a clean conscience,” Haddad said. “I will have some instability now but the truth is more important.”

Newsweek-Employed Spy Explains To Us Why Assange Should Be Prosecuted

Newsweek-Employed Spy Explains To Us Why Assange Should Be Prosecuted

So it turns out it’s really really important for powerful people to be able to lie to us with impunity, you guys. I know this because an actual, literal spy told me that that’s what I’m meant to believe in an article published by Newsweek yesterday.

If you were wondering how long it would take the imperial propagandists to ramp up their efforts to explain to us why it is good for the Trump administration to prosecute WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange after we learned that sealed charges have been brought against him by the United States government, the answer is eight days. If you were wondering which of those propagandists would step forward and aggressively attempt to do so, the answer is Naveed Jamali.

To be clear, I do not use the word “propagandist” to refer to a mass media employee whose reliable track record of establishment sycophancy has propelled him to the upper echelons of influence within platforms owned by plutocrats who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, as I often mean when I use that word. When I say that Jamali is a propagandist, I mean he is a current member of the United States intelligence community telling Newsweek‘s readers that it is to society’s benefit for the US government to pursue a longstanding agenda of the US intelligence community in imprisoning Julian Assange.

“This is not reporting, this is not journalism and Assange is not a journalist providing analysis or investigative reporting— this is the hocking of stolen secrets, with no regard for the very real damage their disclosure does.” My latest for @Newsweek https://www.newsweek.com/prosecuting-assange-essential-restoring-our-national-security-1229856

Prosecuting Assange is essential for restoring our national security | Opinion

Wikileaks and Assange are an affront to any journalist who genuinely seeks to shed light on truth and to provide unbiased coverage.

The Ghosts of Past Political Failures Haunt Environmental Challenges

We will not solve climate change and other pressing global threats until we admit, and learn from, the repeated failures of past proclamations and promises.

The general public, the American news magazine proclaims in its cover story, ‘The ravaged environment’, ‘has been seized with such anger and alarm as to goad political leaders into proclaiming conservation of the environment the chief task of this decade’. The US president is quoted as saying this must be the decade ‘when America pays its debt to the past by reclaiming the purity of its air, its water and our living environment. It is literally now or never.’

At last! But wait. When was this? The president is obviously not Donald Trump. Perhaps Barack Obama? No, it was Richard Nixon, the date was 26 January, 1970, and the magazine was Newsweek.

It is barely stretching the truth to say that since the 1960s, we have declared each decade as the time for decisive action on the environment, and as each decade passes, we postpone the deadline another ten years. Now, as we near the end of the 2010s without the necessary action having been taken, the 2020s are shaping up to be the critical decade.

In the same year – 1992 – that I cited the Newsweek article in an essay for the Australian Commission for the Future (to make a similar point to that here), more than 1700 independent scientists issued a warning to humanity that environmental destruction required a great change in its stewardship of the Earth if ‘vast human misery’ was to be avoided. Last year, on the 25th anniversary of that warning, more than 15,000 scientists signed a ‘second notice’ warning that with the exception of stabilising the stratospheric ozone layer, humanity has failed to make sufficient progress in solving environmental challenges, and ‘alarmingly, most of them are getting far worse’.

CIA and Saudi Arabia Conspired to Keep 9/11 Details Secret, New Book Says

CIA AND SAUDI ARABIA CONSPIRED TO KEEP 9/11 DETAILS SECRET, NEW BOOK SAYS

It’s easier to bury uncomfortable facts than to confront them. So this September 11, the ceremonies marking the 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., will simply honor the dead. In Manhattan, tourists and mourners will gather where the World Trade Center Towers once stood, lowering their heads in memory of the 2,606 who perished there. The services won’t reflect the view that the attacks might well have been prevented.

But for hundreds of families and a growing number of former FBI agents, the grief of another 9/11 ceremony will be laced with barely muted rage: There remains a conspiracy of silence among high former U.S. and Saudi officials about the attacks.

“It’s horrible. We still don’t know what happened,” said Ali Soufan, one of the lead FBI counterterrorism agents whom the CIA kept in the dark about the movements of the future Al-Qaeda hijackers. To Soufan and many other former national security officials, the unanswered questions about the events leading up to the September 11, 2001, attacks dwarf those about the assassination of John F. Kennedy, because “9/11 changed the whole world.” It not only led to the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the fracturing of the Middle East and the global growth of Islamic militantism but also pushed the U.S. closer to being a virtual homeland-security police state.

“I am sad and depressed about it,” said Mark Rossini, one of two FBI agents assigned to the CIA’s Osama bin Laden unit, who says agency managers mysteriously blocked them from informing their headquarters about future Al-Qaeda plotters present in the United States in 2000 and again in the summer of 2001. “It is patently evident the attacks did not need to happen and there has been no justice,” he said.

Newsweek: “U.S. Government Planned False Flag Attacks to Start War”

Newsweek: “U.S. Government Planned False Flag Attacks to Start War”

Mainstream Media Admits that False Flags Are Real

Last month, Newsweek ran an article headlined (all caps in original Newsweek title):

U.S. GOVERNMENT PLANNED FALSE FLAG ATTACKS TO START WAR WITH SOVIET UNION, JFK DOCUMENTS SHOW

The article notes:

The U.S. government once wanted to plan false flag attacks with Soviet aircraft to justify war with the USSR or its allies, newly declassified documents surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy show.

***

False flag attacks are covert operations that make it look like an attack was carried out by another group than the group that actually carried them out.

The mainstream media is finally catching up with what historians have long documented …

After all, influential royal advisors have been advocating false flag attacks for more than 2,000 years … and false flag attacks are so common that U.S. officials commonly discuss them.

Indeed, there are now so many admissions by government officials of false flag terror that only the willfully ignorant still doubt the reality of the concept.

Newsweek Embarrassment: “What Russia Did to Control the American Mind”

In yet another mindless fake news story about fake news, NewsWeek explains how “Russia Controls the American Mind”

The all caps shouting is theirs.

Fake news tweets and social media posts that flooded the internet leading up to the 2016 presidential election came from a Russian troll factory that works around the clock like any IT facility—except lies were pumping out to control the American mind and put Donald Trump in the White House.

Early this month, Twitter testified before Congress and provided the Senate Intelligence Committee with more than 2,700 accounts tied to the agency, while Facebook identified more than 80,000 pieces of content linked to the agency. Meanwhile, Google found about $4,700 worth of search-and-display ads with dubious Russian ties.

Mercy!

Imagine that.

$4,700 worth of search-and-display ads took down the Clinton campaign, despite the fact Clinton outspent Trump $969.1 million to $531.0 million according to a Bloomberg article on Campaign Fundraising.

Writer Jessica Kwong also moaned about trolls being paid between $1,300 and $2,000 per month. Kwong also makes this amusing claim “Twitter users in swing states in the U.S. received more fake news than real stories in the days leading up to the 2016 presidential election.”

Yes folks, this is how Trump won the election:

By spending a mere $4,700 for paid Tweets and $1,000 or so a month for some trolls, Russia now controls our minds.

If you click on that inane article, you may be treated (as I was) to three autoplay videos, two of them were ads, running simultaneously.

Fake News: Newsweek Admits They Didn’t Write Or Even Read “Madam President” Issue

Fake News: Newsweek Admits They Didn’t Write Or Even Read “Madam President” Issue

Newsweek’s political editor, Matthew Cooper, looked as though he’d had a rough month when he appeared on the Tucker Carlson show last night to discuss the “Madam President” debacle.  While the printing and distribution of the erroneous “commemorative edition” magazine was embarrassing enough, Cooper also revealed that no one at Newsweek wrote the Hillary article or even bothered to proofread it before it was shipped off to stores around the country.

Frankly, it’s difficult to discern between fact and fiction with this story, but, given the quality of the writing, we suspect Cooper had little choice but to distance himself and his team completely from the magazine.  Here is a small excerpt in which Trump’s supporters are again referred to as “deplorables” who “called to repeal the 19th amendment.”  Oddly, we covered the election pretty thoroughly and don’t recall anyone calling for a repeal of the 19th amendment…guess we totally missed that one.

“…as the tone of the election grew darker and more bizarre by the day, President-Elect Hillary Clinton ‘went high’ when her opponent went even lower.  No stranger to trudging through the mire of misogyny in her career as first lady, senator, and secretary of state, President-Elect Clinton continued to push for an issues-based campaign even as a handful of Trump’s most deplorable supporters, seeing the wide margins Clinton held among female voters, called to repeal the 19th amendment.  On election day, Americans across the country roundly rejected the kind of fear and hate-based conservatism peddled by Donald Trump and elected the first woman in U.S. history to the presidency.
