{"id":9530,"date":"2015-06-29T07:58:29","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T12:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=9530"},"modified":"2015-06-29T07:58:29","modified_gmt":"2015-06-29T12:58:29","slug":"chicken-little-meet-the-friends-of-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=9530","title":{"rendered":"Chicken Little Meet the Friends of Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field-name-field-bimage field-type-image field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<h3 id=\"page-title\" class=\"page__title title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2015\/06\/28\/chicken-little-meet-friends-science\" target=\"_blank\">Chicken Little Meet the Friends of Science<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/sites\/beta.desmogblog.com\/files\/styles\/blog_teaser\/public\/blogimages\/9294110501_e93f78c47b_b.jpg?itok=By_egyxP\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"133\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Canada&#8217;s leading climate conspiracy theorists, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/friends-of-science\" target=\"_blank\">Friends of Science<\/a>,\u00a0are out this week with a critique on climate change that would make even Chicken Little\u00a0blush.<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/2015\/06\/prweb12809535.htm\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>\u00a0issued Thursday, the Friends of Science state that if plans\u00a0proceed\u00a0to move our country away from carbon-intensive fuel sources like oil and coal, \u201cCanada would have to be completely shut down in order to reach the emissions reduction targets, leaving millions of Canadians\u00a0unemployed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/friends-of-science\" target=\"_blank\">Friends of Science<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0are no stranger to hyperbole, which is on full-display on the homepage of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/friendsofscience.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">their website<\/a>\u00a0promoting all sorts of pseudo-scientific climate science conspiracy\u00a0claims.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">FOS<\/span>\u00a0is also no stranger to\u00a0controversy.<\/p>\n<p>Many longtime DeSmog readers will know that a few years ago this group was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/oil-companies-funding-friends-of-science-tim-ball-takes-the-brunt\" target=\"_blank\">outed in an investigative piece<\/a>\u00a0by the Globe and Mail for its ties to the Alberta oil patch and Conservative Prime Minister Stephen\u00a0Harper.<\/p>\n<p>I am reluctantt to address these latest Chicken Little claims by the Friends of Science, because arguing back at them is exactly what they want and could be mistaken for a sliver of a legitimate place in the debate about how to solve the issue of climate change and transition the world from polluting fossil fuels to clean\u00a0energy.<\/p>\n<p>And quite frankly,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2015\/06\/20\/breaking-climate-deniers-friends-science-say-solutions-uneconomical\" target=\"_blank\">as I pointed out last week<\/a>, a group like the\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">FOS<\/span>\u00a0who still readily claim that climate change is \u201cbig green propaganda\u201d and nothing to be concerned about, has no place in a debate about how to deal with a problem they don&#8217;t .<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chicken Little Meet the Friends of Science Canada&#8217;s leading climate conspiracy theorists, the\u00a0Friends of Science,\u00a0are out this week with a critique on climate change that would make even Chicken Little\u00a0blush.
