{"id":9474,"date":"2015-06-26T18:29:42","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T23:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=9474"},"modified":"2015-06-26T18:29:42","modified_gmt":"2015-06-26T23:29:42","slug":"america-as-dangerous-flailing-beast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=9474","title":{"rendered":"America as Dangerous Flailing Beast"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2015\/05\/09\/america-as-dangerous-flailing-beast\/\" target=\"_blank\">America as Dangerous Flailing Beast<\/a><\/h3>\n<p class=\"entry-meta\">Despite pretty talk about \u201cdemocracy\u201d and \u201chuman rights,\u201d U.S. leaders have become the world\u2019s chief purveyors of chaos and death \u2013 from Vietnam through Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ukraine and many other unfortunate nations, a dangerous dilemma addressed by John Chuckman.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><span id=\"more-14958\"><\/span>When I think of America\u2019s place in the world today, the image that comes to mind is of a very large animal, perhaps a huge bull elephant or even prehistoric mammoth, which long roamed as the unchallenged king of its domain but has become trapped by its own missteps, as caught in a tar pit or some quicksand, and it is violently flailing about, making a terrifying noises in its effort to free itself and re-establish its authority.<\/p>\n<p>Any observer immediately knows the animal ultimately cannot succeed but certainly is frightened by the noise and crashing that it can sustain for a considerable time.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"image-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/georgewbushiraqwar.jpg?55ac53\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8433\" src=\"http:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/georgewbushiraqwar-300x228.jpg?55ac53\" alt=\"President George W.
