{"id":8528,"date":"2015-05-27T06:27:14","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T11:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=8528"},"modified":"2015-05-27T06:27:14","modified_gmt":"2015-05-27T11:27:14","slug":"why-would-bloomberg-news-completely-disappear-the-february-2014-ukraine-coup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=8528","title":{"rendered":"Why Would Bloomberg News Completely Disappear the February, 2014 Ukraine Coup?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2015\/05\/bloomberg-disappears-ukraine-coup.html\" target=\"_blank\">Why Would Bloomberg News Completely Disappear the February, 2014 Ukraine Coup?<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Bloomberg\u00a0<a title=\"says \" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-05-26\/russia-digs-ditches-to-slow-inflow-of-arms-and-men-from-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\">says\u00a0<\/a>in a post today that the \u201cconfrontation between Russia and the US\u201d over Ukraine was \u201cprovok[ed]\u201d by Putin\u2019s annexation of Crimea:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\u201c\u2026<b>Putin annexed the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea last March<\/b>,\u00a0<b>provoking<\/b>the biggest confrontation between Russia and the U.S. and Europe since the Cold War.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That\u2019s odd, though, because the reintegration of Crimea into Russia (after a vote in favor \u2013 but remember democracy is what we say it is) happened, as Bloomberg says and BBC confirms, in\u00a0<a title=\"March, 2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-26606097\" target=\"_blank\">March, 2014<\/a>, about\u00a0<b>five months after\u00a0<\/b>violent, US-backed protests began in November 2013, and ended in the the elected Ukrainian president, Victor Yanukovych, being driven out of the country by, as BBC put it, \u201cradical groups\u201d, including neo-Nazis: see BBC\u2019s \u201c<a title=\"Neo-Nazi Threat in Ukraine\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5SBo0akeDMY\" target=\"_blank\">Neo-Nazi Threat in Ukraine<\/a>\u201c, Feb. 28, 2014.\u00a0 (\u201cBBC Newsnight\u2019s Gabriel Gatehouse investigates the links between the new Ukrainian government and Neo-nazis.\u201d\u00a0 Later articles covering the topic were published by, among many others,\u00a0<a title=\"Glenn Greenwald\" href=\"https:\/\/firstlook.org\/theintercept\/2015\/02\/27\/clapper-calls-arming-ukrainian-forces-actually-empower\/\" target=\"_blank\">Glenn Greenwald<\/a>,<a title=\"Robert Parry\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2014\/04\/16\/ukraine-through-the-us-looking-glass\/\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Parry<\/a>, and even, albeit 8 or 9 months too late to make a difference,\u00a0<a title=\"NBC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/storyline\/ukraine-crisis\/german-tv-shows-nazi-symbols-helmets-ukraine-soldiers-n198961\" target=\"_blank\">NBC<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also strange that BBC would say the following (even in a piece rife with the British state-run outlet\u2019s typical pro-Western spin):<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>Pro-Russian forces [ie the Russian troops already stationed in Crimea by agreement] took control of Crimea in February.\u00a0\u00a0<b>They moved in after Ukraine\u2019s pro-Moscow president Viktor Yanukovych was ousted after street protests.<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, they reacted to the US-backed overthrow of elected Yanukovych.\u00a0 To be precise, Russian troops began the process of, in US political-speak, liberating and securing Crimea on \u201c<a title=\"February 23rd, 2014\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Annexation_of_Crimea_by_the_Russian_Federation#Euromaidan_and_the_Ukrainian_revolution\" target=\"_blank\">February 23rd, 2014<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, again oddly, here is\u00a0<a title=\"Time \" href=\"http:\/\/world.time.com\/2014\/02\/22\/ukraines-president-flees-protestors-capture-kiev\/\" target=\"_blank\">Time\u00a0<\/a>on February\u00a0<strong>22nd<\/strong>, 2014:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\u201cUkraine protesters seize Kiev as President flees\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\u201cYanukovych fled to the eastern city of Kharkiv where he traditionally has a more solid base of support\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is\u00a0<a title=\"noted \" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Annexation_of_Crimea_by_the_Russian_Federation#Euromaidan_and_the_Ukrainian_revolution\" target=\"_blank\">noted\u00a0<\/a>in Wikipedia that Yanukovych had \u201cwon election in 2010 with strong support in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and southern and eastern Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why Would Bloomberg News Completely Disappear the February, 2014 Ukraine Coup?
