{"id":8150,"date":"2015-05-15T06:23:14","date_gmt":"2015-05-15T11:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=8150"},"modified":"2015-05-15T06:23:14","modified_gmt":"2015-05-15T11:23:14","slug":"why-not-tell-greece-how-to-run-a-democracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=8150","title":{"rendered":"Why Not Tell Greece How To Run A Democracy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"posttitle\"><a class=\"entry-title\" title=\"Why Not Tell Greece How To Run A Democracy?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theautomaticearth.com\/2015\/05\/why-not-tell-greece-how-to-run-a-democracy\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">Why Not Tell Greece How To Run A Democracy?<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>I know I\u2019ve talked about this before, but it just keeps coming and it keeps being crzay.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-05-13\/schaeuble-backs-greek-referendum-to-break-bailout-impasse\" target=\"new\">Bloomberg \u2018reports\u2019<\/a>\u00a0that the \u2018German Finance Ministry\u2019, let me get this right, \u201cis supporting the idea of a vote by Greek citizens to either accept the economic reforms being sought by creditors to receive a payout from the country\u2019s bailout program or ultimately opt to leave the euro.\u201d And that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n<p>They \u2018report\u2019 this as if it has some sort of actual value, as if it\u2019s a real thing. Whereas in reality, it has the exact same value as Greek Finance Minister Varoufakis suggesting a referendum in Germany. Or Washington, for that matter. Something that Bloomberg wouldn\u2019t even dream of \u2018reporting\u2019 in any kind of serious way, though the political value would be identical.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently there is some kind of consensus in the international press \u2013 Bloomberg was by no means the only \u2018news service\u2019 that \u2018reported\u2019 this \u2013 that Germany has obtained the right to meddle in the internal politics of other eurozone member nations. And let\u2019s get this one thing very clear: it has not.<\/p>\n<p>No more than the Greek government has somehow acquired the right to even vent its opinions on German domestic issues. It is a no-go area for all European Union countries. More than that, it\u2019s no-go for all nations in the world, and certainly in cases where governments have been democratically elected.<\/p>\n<p>So why do Bloomberg and Reuters and all the others disregard such simple principles?
