{"id":7755,"date":"2015-05-02T06:28:07","date_gmt":"2015-05-02T11:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7755"},"modified":"2015-05-02T06:28:07","modified_gmt":"2015-05-02T11:28:07","slug":"major-u-s-retailers-are-closing-more-than-6000-stores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7755","title":{"rendered":"Major U.S. Retailers Are Closing More Than 6,000 Stores"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/archives\/major-u-s-retailers-are-closing-more-than-6000-stores\" target=\"_blank\">Major U.S. Retailers Are Closing More Than 6,000 Stores<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>If the U.S. economy really is improving, then why are big U.S. retailers permanently shutting down thousands of stores?\u00a0 The \u201cretail apocalypse\u201d that I have written about so frequently appears to be accelerating.\u00a0 As you will see below, major U.S. retailers have announced that they are closing more than 6,000 locations, but economic conditions in this country are still fairly stable.\u00a0 So if this is happening already, what are things going to look like once the next recession strikes?\u00a0 For a long time, I have been pointing to 2015 as a major \u201cturning point\u201d for the U.S. economy, and I still feel that way.\u00a0 And since I started The Economic Collapse Blog at the end of 2009, I have never seen as many indications that we are headed into another major economic downturn\u00a0<a title=\"as I do right now\" href=\"http:\/\/theeconomiccollapseblog.com\/archives\/16-signs-that-the-economy-has-stalled-out-and-the-next-economic-downturn-is-here\">as I do right now<\/a>.\u00a0 If retailers are closing this many stores already, what are our malls and shopping centers going to look like a few years from now?<\/p>\n<p>The list below comes from information compiled\u00a0<a title=\"by About.com\" href=\"http:\/\/retailindustry.about.com\/od\/USRetailStoreClosingInfoFAQs\/fl\/All-2015-Store-Closings-Stores-Closed-by-US-Retail-Industry-Chains_4.htm\" target=\"_blank\">by About.com<\/a>, but I have only included major retailers that have announced plans to close at least 10 stores.\u00a0 Most of these closures will take place this year, but in some instances the closures are scheduled to be phased in over a number of years.\u00a0 As you can see, the number of stores that are being permanently shut down is absolutely staggering\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>180<\/strong>\u00a0Abercrombie &amp; Fitch (by 2015)<\/p>\n<p><strong>75<\/strong>\u00a0Aeropostale (through January 2015)<\/p>\n<p><strong>150<\/strong>\u00a0American Eagle Outfitters (through 2017)<\/p>\n<p><strong>223<\/strong>\u00a0Barnes &amp;
