{"id":7706,"date":"2015-04-30T05:57:12","date_gmt":"2015-04-30T10:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7706"},"modified":"2015-04-30T05:57:12","modified_gmt":"2015-04-30T10:57:12","slug":"new-report-warns-of-west-coast-tar-sands-oil-invasion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7706","title":{"rendered":"New Report Warns of West Coast Tar Sands Oil Invasion"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 id=\"page-title\" class=\"page__title title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2015\/04\/29\/new-report-warns-west-coast-tar-sands-oil-invasion\" target=\"_blank\">New Report Warns of West Coast Tar Sands Oil Invasion<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The West Coast of the United States and Canada is facing an imminent tar sands oil invasion, according to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrdc.org\/land\/files\/west-coast-tar-sands-threat-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">a new report<\/a>\u00a0from the Natural Resources Defense Council (<span class=\"caps\">NRDC<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe West Coast is about to fall victim to a tar sands invasion, unless our leaders choose to protect the health and safety of our communities and say no to Big Oil,\u201d said Anthony Swift,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/new-study-tar-sands-to-skyrocket-west-coasts-climate-and-air-pollution-300073572.html\" target=\"_blank\">deputy director of\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">NRDC<\/span>&#8216;s Canada Project<\/a>. \u201cAt a time when the nation is moving toward a clean energy future, there is no reason to welcome the dirtiest oil on the planet into our\u00a0communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the West Coast is not currently the destination for much tar sands oil, the area\u2019s heavy oil refining capacity and deepwater port access make it a likely destination for large amounts of Canadian tar sands oil in the\u00a0future.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (<span class=\"caps\">CAPP<\/span>) forecasts that tar sands supply will increase from 2.4 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2013 to 6.2 million bpd by 2030.
