{"id":7317,"date":"2015-04-15T05:57:38","date_gmt":"2015-04-15T10:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7317"},"modified":"2015-04-15T05:57:38","modified_gmt":"2015-04-15T10:57:38","slug":"a-1000-mile-stretch-of-the-pacific-ocean-has-heated-up-several-degrees-and-scientists-dont-know-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7317","title":{"rendered":"A 1,000 Mile Stretch Of The Pacific Ocean Has Heated Up Several Degrees And Scientists Don\u2019t Know Why"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/a-1000-mile-stretch-of-the-pacific-ocean-has-heated-up-several-degrees-and-scientists-dont-know-why\" target=\"_blank\">A 1,000 Mile Stretch Of The Pacific Ocean Has Heated Up Several Degrees And Scientists Don\u2019t Know Why<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>According to two University of Washington scientific research papers that were recently released, a 1,000 mile stretch of the Pacific Ocean has warmed up by several degrees, and nobody seems to know why this is happening.\u00a0 This giant \u201cblob\u201d of warm water was first observed in late 2013, and it is playing havoc with our climate.\u00a0 And since this giant \u201cblob\u201d first showed up, fish and other sea creatures have been dying in absolutely massive numbers.\u00a0 So could there be a connection?\u00a0 And what is going to happen if the Pacific Ocean continues to warm up?\u00a0 Could we potentially be facing the greatest holocaust of sea life in the Pacific that anyone has ever observed?\u00a0 If so, what would that mean for the food chain and for our food supply?<\/p>\n<p>For a large portion of the Pacific Ocean to suddenly start significantly heating up without any known explanation is a really big deal.\u00a0 The following information about this new research comes from\u00a0<a title=\"the University of Washington\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/news\/2015\/04\/09\/warm-blob-in-pacific-ocean-linked-to-weird-weather-across-the-u-s\/\" target=\"_blank\">the University of Washington<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIn the fall of 2013 and early 2014 we started to notice a big, almost circular mass of water that just didn\u2019t cool off as much as it usually did, so by spring of 2014 it was warmer than we had ever seen it for that time of year,\u201d said\u00a0<a title=\"Nick Bond\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jisao.washington.edu\/researchers\/bios\/bond\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Bond<\/a>, a climate scientist at the UW-based\u00a0<a title=\"Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jisao.washington.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean<\/a>, a joint research center of the UW and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Bond coined the term \u201c<a title=\"the blob\" href=\"http:\/\/www.climate.washington.edu\/newsletter\/2014Jun.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">the blob<\/a>\u201d last June in his monthly newsletter as Washington\u2019s state climatologist.
