{"id":7094,"date":"2015-04-04T07:15:55","date_gmt":"2015-04-04T12:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7094"},"modified":"2015-04-04T07:15:55","modified_gmt":"2015-04-04T12:15:55","slug":"fracking-has-no-business-in-lancashire-local-firms-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7094","title":{"rendered":"Fracking Has No Business in Lancashire &#8211; Local Firms Protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/desmog.uk\/2015\/04\/03\/more-businesses-reject-fracking-lancashire-support-it\" target=\"_blank\">Fracking Has No Business in Lancashire &#8211; Local Firms Protest<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><em>Local small businesses seem to be throwing their weight behind the anti-fracking movement rather than the pro-fracking business lobby in Lancashire, finds Ben Lucas,\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">MA<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<em>Investigative Journalist student at City\u00a0University.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are currently more businesses in Lancashire that oppose rather than support fracking, according to available\u00a0data.<\/p>\n<p>The industry-funded North West Energy Task Force lists 349 businesses that support fracking in the area. But as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/energydesk.greenpeace.org\/2015\/03\/30\/cuadrilla-backed-lancashire-business-lobby-largely-supported-companies-outside-county\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greenpeace<\/a>\u00a0revealed this week, only 149 businesses, or less than half listed (43 percent), are actually from\u00a0Lancashire.<\/p>\n<p>The North West Energy Task Force is a pro-fracking lobby group set up and largely financed by energy companies Cuadrilla and\u00a0Centrica.<\/p>\n<p>Notable supporters from outside the county include Derbyshire firm\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">PR<\/span>\u00a0Marriot Drilling Group and a Liverpool-based events company, both of which have had contracts with Cuadrilla in the\u00a0past.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local\u00a0Businesses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, at the end of January this year, more than 200 businesses from Lancashire signed a<a href=\"http:\/\/stopfyldefracking.org.uk\/latest-news\/over-200-local-businesses-community-groups-call-on-lancs-county-council-to-say-no-to-fracking\/\" target=\"_blank\">letter<\/a>\u00a0asking the County Council to reject\u00a0fracking.<\/p>\n<p>Upon inspection, the letter, drafted by Frack Free Lancashire, shows that there are currently 203 businesses that reject fracking in Lancashire \u2013 over 50 more than those in favour of onshore shale oil and gas.
