{"id":7078,"date":"2015-04-03T07:54:41","date_gmt":"2015-04-03T12:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7078"},"modified":"2015-04-03T07:54:41","modified_gmt":"2015-04-03T12:54:41","slug":"chaos-in-yemen-chinese-troops-arrive-as-us-armed-rebels-set-sights-on-central-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=7078","title":{"rendered":"Chaos In Yemen: Chinese Troops Arrive As US-Armed Rebels Set Sights On Central Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-04-02\/chaos-yemen-rebels-turn-aden-warzone-al-qaeda-stages-prison-break-saudi-arabia-suffe\" target=\"_blank\">Chaos In Yemen: Chinese Troops Arrive As US-Armed Rebels Set Sights On Central Bank<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Iranian-backed\u00a0<strong>Houthi rebels are now in control of the central Crater district in the key Yemeni port city of Aden despite a seventh consecutive day of bombing raids by the Saudi-led coalition which is keen on preventing the city from falling.\u00a0<\/strong>Aden is the second largest city in the country with a population of some 800,000 and as noted by The Guardian, is\u00a0<strong>\u201cthe last major holdout of fighters loyal to the Saudi-backed President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Residents have reported the presence of tanks, sniper fire, and patrolling Houthi fighters as the militia moves closer to exerting complete control over the city.<\/p>\n<p>Via\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2015\/apr\/02\/yemen-houthi-fighters-aden-southern-port-crater-saudi\">The Guardian<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\"><strong><em>Residents of Aden\u2019s central Crater district said Houthi fighters and their allies were in control of the neighbourhood by midday on Thursday, deploying tanks and foot patrols through its otherwise empty streets after heavy fighting in the morning.<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<p><em>It was the first time fighting on the ground had reached so deeply into central Aden.
