Lobbyist claims Monsanto weed killer is safe to drink, then bolts when TV host offers him a glass<\/a><\/h3>\n

A controversial lobbyist who claimed that the chemical in Monsanto\u2019s Roundup weed killer was safe for humans refused to drink his own words when a French television journalist offered him a glass.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0preview<\/a>\u00a0of an upcoming documentary on French TV, Dr. Patrick Moore tells a Canal+ interviewer that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup herbicide, was not increasing the rate of cancer in Argentina.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can drink a whole quart of it and it won\u2019t hurt you,\u201d Moore insists.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to drink some?\u201d the interviewer asks. \u201cWe have some here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d be happy to, actually,\u201d Moore replies, adding, \u201cNot really. But I know it wouldn\u2019t hurt me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you say so, I have some,\u201d the interviewer presses.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not stupid,\u201d Moore declares.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, it\u2019s dangerous?\u201d the interviewer concludes.<\/p>\n

But Moore claims that Roundup is so safe that \u201cpeople try to commit suicide\u201d by drinking it, and they \u201cfail regularly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTell the truth, it\u2019s dangerous,\u201d the interviewer says.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not dangerous to humans,\u201d Moore remarks. \u201cNo, it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, are you ready to drink one glass?\u201d the interviewer continues to press.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I\u2019m not an idiot,\u201d Moore says defiantly. \u201cInterview me about golden rice, that\u2019s what I\u2019m talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n

At that point, Moore declares that the \u201cinterview is finished.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a good way to solve things,\u201d the interviewer quips.<\/p>\n
