Carbon emissions fell by 9.7\u00a0percent.<\/p>\n<p>A 23 percent reduction in coal use and record warm temperatures were the main contributors to the decline in emissions. Continued falls in energy use were also a\u00a0factor.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2015\/mar\/26\/large-fall-in-uk-greenhouse-gas-emissions-of-over-8-last-year\" target=\"_blank\">dramatic drop in emissions<\/a>\u00a0is the largest on record for a growing\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">UK<\/span>\u00a0economy. In fact, the economy grew faster in 2014 than it has in any year since\u00a02007.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economic\u00a0Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.carbonbrief.org\/blog\/2014\/12\/two-degrees-will-we-avoid-dangerous-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\">extremely rare<\/a>\u00a0that emission reductions of more than 5 percent per year occur without an economic\u00a0recession.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>This is further evidence, if it was needed, that efforts to cut carbon pollution and boost our economy can go hand in hand,\u201d said Doug Parr, chief scientist at Greenpeace\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">UK<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">DECC<\/span>\u2019s figures follow recent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/1f56f0d2-c8cc-11e4-8617-00144feab7de.html?siteedition=uk#axzz3VUrPNxUd\" target=\"_blank\">estimates by the International Energy Agency<\/a>\u00a0that global\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">CO<\/span>2 emissions stalled in 2014 during a period of global economic growth.
