This short video describes examples of our rapidly drying planet.<\/p>\n<div class=\"subscription-widget-wrap\"><\/div>\n<p>From\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/09\/03\/americas\/lake-titicaca-water-levels-intl\/index.html\" rel=\"\">CNN<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/09\/03\/americas\/lake-titicaca-water-levels-intl\/index.html\" rel=\"\">\u00a0comes a story titled\u00a0<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/09\/03\/americas\/lake-titicaca-water-levels-intl\/index.html\" rel=\"\">The world&#8217;s highest navigable lake is drying out<\/a><\/em>. The story was published 3 September 2023. Here\u2019s the lede: \u201cWater levels at Lake Titicaca \u2013 the highest navigable lake in the world and South America\u2019s largest \u2013 are dropping precipitously after an unprecedented winter heat wave.\u201d The first paragraph concludes with this sentence: \u201cThe shocking decline is affecting tourism, fishing and agriculture, which locals rely on to make a living.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article published by\u00a0<em>CNN<\/em>\u00a0goes on: \u201cVisitors have long been attracted to the blue waters and open skies of South America\u2019s largest lake, which straddles more than 3,200 square miles across the border of Peru and Bolivia.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes described as an \u2018inland sea,\u2019 it is home to Aymara, Quechua, and Uros indigenous communities and sits at an altitude of around 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) in the central Andes mountain range, making it the highest navigable lake in the world.
