Belgium, often seen as a custodian of China\u2019s holdings, disposed of $22 billion of Treasuries during the period.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s investments in the US are garnering renewed investor attention amid signs that tensions between the world\u2019s largest economies may worsen. President Joe Biden has unveiled sweeping tariff hikes on a range of Chinese imports, while his predecessor Donald Trump said he might impose a levy of more than 60% on Chinese goods if elected.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs China is selling both despite the fact that we are closer to a Fed rate-cut cycle, there should be a clear intention of diversifying away from US dollar holdings,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0said Stephen Chiu, chief Asia foreign-exchange and rates strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence.\u00a0<em>\u201cChina\u2019s selling of US securities could speed up as US-China trade war resumes\u201d especially if Trump returns as president, he said.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>China is Buying Gold<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66196\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mishtalk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/China-Has-Boosted-Gold-Holdings.png?resize=1000%2C562&amp;quality=80&amp;ssl=1\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mishtalk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/China-Has-Boosted-Gold-Holdings.png?w=1000&amp;quality=80&amp;ssl=1 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mishtalk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/China-Has-Boosted-Gold-Holdings.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;quality=80&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mishtalk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/China-Has-Boosted-Gold-Holdings.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;quality=80&amp;ssl=1 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>One part of the story is not in question.
