Both jobless claims and\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/schiffgold.com\/interviews\/schiff-on-business-matters-consumers-are-in-big-trouble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">consumer sentiment came in worse than expected<\/a>\u00a0last week, with both figures missing predictions by a wide margin. Peter also discusses public statements\u00a0made\u00a0by both Joe Biden and Donald Trump on the nature and origin of inflation.<span id=\"more-43381\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Fed faces a difficult choice. Does it prioritize fighting inflation or keep rates low for consumers?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf Powell looks at these numbers and decides we need to raise rates because consumers are worried and they\u2019re pessimistic about inflation, that\u2019s going to make the high-interest rate problem worse. Consumers are upset about both high inflation and high interest rates. So how is the Fed going to do something about that? Because if it raises interest rates, it\u2019s going to make that problem worse. And if it doesn\u2019t raise interest rates, or cuts interest rates, it\u2019s going to make the inflation problem worse.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In a recent interview, President Biden\u00a0took to blaming\u00a0private companies for inflation. Peter explains how absurd this explanation is:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe immediately changed the subject to shrinkflation and then started blaming greedy corporations. And he said,\u00a0\u2018We have a problem of corporate greed.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why everything is so expensive now.\u2019\u00a0As if corporations\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0greedy until Joe Biden became president.\u00a0All of a sudden,\u00a0Biden\u2019s\u00a0president and these corporations decide,\u00a0\u2018You know,\u00a0let\u2019s\u00a0stick it to the consumer. We can make some extra money if we really jack up the\u00a0price of food.\u2019\u00a0Where were all these greedy corporate officers a few years back?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Peter rebuts Biden further.
