{"id":67911,"date":"2024-05-05T16:20:06","date_gmt":"2024-05-05T21:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=67911"},"modified":"2024-05-05T16:20:06","modified_gmt":"2024-05-05T21:20:06","slug":"el-nino-to-last-two-more-months-2024-could-be-malaysias-hottest-year-nik-nazmi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=67911","title":{"rendered":"El Nino to last two more months; 2024 could be Malaysia\u2019s hottest year \u2014 Nik Nazmi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"news-detail_articleContainerWrapper__pE31f\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"news-detail_pageWrapperWithAd__3iC2J\">\n<div class=\"news-detail_pageWrapperContent__QWIfQ\">\n<div class=\"news-detail_newsdetailsListingWrap__8_PiB\">\n<div class=\"news-detail_newsdetailsContent__Fey_B\">\n<div class=\"news-detail_newsDetailsItemWrap___HS1t\">\n<h3 class=\"news-detail_newsdetailsItemHead__zb6Ed\"><a href=\"https:\/\/theedgemalaysia.com\/node\/710127\">El Nino to last two more months; 2024 could be Malaysia\u2019s hottest year \u2014 Nik Nazmi<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"news-detail_newsTextDataWrap__PkAu5\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>KOTA BHARU (May 2): The El Nino phenomenon hitting the country is expected to continue for the next two months, said Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>He said his ministry and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) will monitor the weather transition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>According to him, forecasts indicate this year could be the country\u2019s hottest year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>\u201cThe last time such hot weather struck the country was in 1998 in Perlis,\u201d he told reporters after launching the Madani NRES adopted village in Kampung Aril, Melor, here on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>Nik Nazmi said Kelantan, Perlis and Kedah are experiencing higher temperatures than Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>He said based on the report he received, the transition should have started with rain expected to come, but Malaysians are to experience hotter days for another one to two months, with the Meteorological Department monitoring the situation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>\u201cBesides that, we will also monitor and be vigilant about haze in the country and across borders as we observe signs of peat fires,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>Nik Nazmi said his ministry will join forces with the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry to monitor water levels, adding that they may need to conduct a cloud seeding exercise.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>The matter is under the attention of Nadma, he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"newsTextDataWrapInner\">\n<p>\u201cThe cost of cloud seeding is high and depends on weather factors.
