The Mises Book Store has sold out of its physical copies, and the PDF, which is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/library\/book\/economic-policy-thoughts-today-and-tomorrow\">available online for free<\/a>, has seen over 50,000 downloads in the past few days.<\/p>\n<p>This surge in interest in Mises\u2019s ideas was started by UFC fighter Renato Moicano, who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/mises-wire\/renato-moicano-if-you-care-about-yourcountry-read-ludwig-von-mises\">declared<\/a>\u00a0in a short post-fight victory speech, \u201cI love America, I love the Constitution&#8230;I want to carry&#8230;guns. I love private property. Let me tell you something. If you care about your&#8230;country, read Ludwig von Mises and the six lessons of the Austrian economic school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201csix lessons\u201d he is referring to is Mises\u2019s book,\u00a0<em>Economic Policy: Thoughts for Today and Tomorrow<\/em>, which was republished by our friends in Brazil under the title \u201cAs Seis Li\u00e7\u00f5es\u201d (\u201cThe Six Lessons\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in what Mises has to say in this book, which is a transcription of lectures he gave in Argentina in 1959, here\u2019s a brief preview, which I hope inspires you to read the short book in full. As a side note, if you are an undergraduate student who is interested in these ideas, the Mises Institute\u2019s next\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/events\/summer-2024-virtual-mises-book-club\">Mises Book Club<\/a>\u00a0is on this text (pure coincidence!).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lecture One: Capitalism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mises begins his first lecture with an overview of the development of capitalism out of feudalism. Businesses began \u201cmass production to satisfy the needs of the masses\u201d instead of focusing on producing luxury goods for the elite.
