We saw it with Dolby Cinema and it was a powerful experience. Our seats vibrated with every gun shot, every helicopter, every explosion. Both of us agreed that Garland had done such a good job of making the movie sufficiently opaque that an average American of either Blue or Red persuasion could enjoy it. Most people would, we felt, look no deeper than the superficial message: \u201ccivil war bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But we also both concluded it was, at its core, a left-wing movie. \u201cGiven the movie\u2019s left-wing sentiments, the progressive critics must have loved it,\u201d I thought. \u201cLet\u2019s see what they have to say!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So I opened up Wired.com to read its review, entitled<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/review-the-troubling-politics-of-alex-garlands-civil-war\/\" rel=\"\">The Troubling Politics of Alex Garland\u2019s\u00a0<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/review-the-troubling-politics-of-alex-garlands-civil-war\/\" rel=\"\">Civil War<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When director\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2015\/04\/alex-garland-ex-machina\/\" rel=\"\">Alex Garland<\/a>\u00a0sat down in 2020 to write his new movie,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/leave-the-world-behind-civil-war-conspiracies\/\" rel=\"\">Civil War<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0he was clearly worried about the polarization of American society. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/covid-19\/\" rel=\"\">Covid-19<\/a>\u00a0pandemic was just beginning to take hold, and former US president\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0was still in the White House. It was a much different country from the one in which Garland is releasing his biggest film to date.<\/p>\n<p>Garland [has] created\u2026 a far-right fantasy recruiting tool.
