Rampant Disinformation<\/h3>\n

NATO has\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0that it is launching an \u201cinformation war\u201d against Russia.<\/p>\n

The UK publicly\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0a battalion of keyboard warriors to spread disinformation.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s well-documented that the West has long\u00a0used false propaganda to sway public opinion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Western military and intelligence services\u00a0manipulate social media\u00a0<\/a>to counter criticism of Western policies.<\/p>\n

Such manipulation<\/a>\u00a0includes flooding social media with comments supporting the government and large corporations, using\u00a0armies of sock puppets<\/a>, i.e.\u00a0fake social media identities<\/a>. See\u00a0this<\/a>,\u00a0this<\/a>,\u00a0this<\/a>,\u00a0this<\/a>\u00a0andthis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2013, the American Congress\u00a0repealed<\/em>\u00a0the formal ban<\/a>\u00a0against the deployment of propaganda against U.S. citizens living on American soil. So there\u2019s even\u00a0less<\/em>\u00a0to constrain propaganda than before.<\/p>\n
