It tanks the visibility of posts.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-1c1b77c elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"1c1b77c\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-639db3f\" data-id=\"639db3f\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a75c057 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-theme-post-content\" data-id=\"a75c057\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"theme-post-content.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<p>There\u2019s good news, and bad: first, the fact that \u201cfact-checkers\u201d masquerading as unbiased and accurate moderators of content \u2013 while actually unreliable and bias-prone tools of censorship \u2013 are now recognized widely enough as just that, to trigger a reaction from some prominent actors.<\/p>\n<p>But then \u2013 these \u201cfact-checkers\u201d are reacting in order to double down on their role as something positive, and justified.<\/p>\n<p>Because there are no facts to support this attitude, one of the key \u201cfact-checkers\u201d is hiding behind an opinion piece. But the claim is there: \u201cFact-checking is not censorship,\u201d a post on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poynter.org\/commentary\/2024\/fact-checking-is-not-censorship\/\">Poynter wants you to believe.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This, despite the organization, which acts to \u201ccertify fact-checkers\u201d via the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), having a project that has resulted in mass suppression of posts on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>According to Facebook (Meta) CEO Mark Zuckerberg, posts that get fact-checked\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimthenet.org\/zuckerberg-defends-censoring\">experience a 95% drop in clicks<\/a>. In other words, even if this content is not outright removed, it is made virtually invisible. That\u2019s censorship by any other name.<\/p>\n<p>So how in the world can Poynter claim that activities of those it certifies actually result in \u201cadding to the public debate\u201d rather than suppressing it?<\/p>\n<p>It can, and does. Meanwhile, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.reclaimthenet.org\/Meta-March-2024.pdf\">report recently published by Meta<\/a>\u00a0paints a different picture: the EU that was no doubt happy to share that \u201cfact-checking\u201d reduces users\u2019 attempts to share posts by 47 and 38 percent on Facebook and Instagram, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, neither Meta nor the EU are offering this data as proof of negative and nefarious efforts resulting in censorship; instead they are treated simply as proof that Meta complies with EU\u2019s \u201ccodes\u201d and other rules, also in the end producing more censorship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Social Media Fact Checkers Claim Their Work Isn\u2019t Censorship.
