(Kyle Bakx\/CBC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"story\">\n<p>Persistent and severe drought conditions across Western Canada could have a devastating effect on the oil and natural gas sector, which has drilling operations in some of the driest areas, according to a new report by Deloitte.<\/p>\n<p>Limited water supply could have significant effects on the production of oil and gas, the report warns, and the timing couldn&#8217;t be worse for the industry as many companies are wanting to increase production and drilling with new export\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/trans-mountain-expansion-begins-1.7150343\">pipelines<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsinteractives.cbc.ca\/longform\/lng-canada\/\">facilities<\/a>\u00a0nearing completion.<\/p>\n<p>The past several years have been parched in parts of Western Canada, but there is extra concern this year because of the below average snowpack in the mountains.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not going to be as simple to just pipe\u00a0fresh water in. You may need to move it and truck it to different locations,&#8221; said\u00a0Andrew Botterill, an energy analyst with\u00a0Deloitte\u00a0Canada, in an interview with CBC News.<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul class=\"similarLinks\">\n<li class=\"similarListItem\"><a class=\"similarLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/water-basins-rebecca-schulz-pincher-creek-tricia-stadnyk-1.7157075\" data-contentid=\"\"><span class=\"similarLinkText\">A pipeline to send water to southern Alberta?
