Ben Lucas looks at the growing movement and new evidence published this week on the relationship between government, universities and fracking\u00a0companies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What started out as a grassroots campaigning tactic to lobby big institutions to stop backing non-renewable energy production, has this week gained large-scale mainstream\u00a0support.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/keep-it-in-the-ground-blog\" target=\"_blank\">keep it in the ground<\/a>\u201d has now gathered a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/keep-it-in-the-ground-blog\/2015\/mar\/17\/guardian-petition-for-fossil-fuel-divestment-receives-60000-signatures\" target=\"_blank\">petition<\/a>\u00a0with over 60,000 signatures to ask the world\u2019s largest charitable foundations to divest their endowments from fossil fuels. \u00a0The\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">UN<\/span>\u00a0has also come out in open support for the increasingly global\u00a0movement.<\/p>\n<p>And this week a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkfracking.org\/news\/frackademicsblog\/\" target=\"_blank\">report published by TalkFracking<\/a>, a campaign group supported by Vivienne Westwood, on \u2018Frackademia\u2019 seeks to raise awareness about the influence of the fracking industry in university research\u00a0departments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A \u2018Positive View of\u00a0Fracking\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The investigation, carried out by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fraw.org.uk\/mei\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Mobbs<\/a>, an environmental researcher, investigated the relationship between the fracking industry and academia.
