Organizations like the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gold.org\/goldhub\/research\/gold-demand-trends\/gold-demand-trends-q3-2023\/central-banks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">World Gold Council<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0reported a staggering increase compared to 2022:<\/span><span id=\"more-41838\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cOn a year-to-date basis, central banks have bought an astonishing net 800t, 14% higher than the same period last year.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Whether or not\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/schiffgold.com\/key-gold-news\/january-historically-a-strong-month-for-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The January Effect<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0will apply to the gold price as we finish the first month of 2024, there are plenty of indicators that the central bank buying spree will continue for at least the first half of the new year. Accelerating\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/schiffgold.com\/key-gold-news\/are-the-chinese-selling-dollars-to-buy-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">de-dollarization is just one factor<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, as powerhouses like China and Russia continue strategically moving further and further from the grips of USD hegemony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Of course, actions by the Biden administration to isolate Russia with sanctions in the wake of the Ukraine conflict only provide further\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/currencies\/moscow-exchange-would-halt-usd-trading-if-sanctions-imposed-2023-12-05\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">impetus for the Russians to continue divesting in any way they can from the US dollar<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Combined with a volatile ruble and a wave of new American spending to feed its proxy wars in Ukraine and Israel, it only makes sense that Russia\u2019s gold coffers will continue to grow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You can also bet on China and Russia buying significantly more gold than what gets reported publicly, so the real numbers are always higher than they seem. As\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JamesGRickards\/status\/1638900459061510147\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jim Richards has pointed out many times<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, such as in this tweet from Q1 last year, countries like Russia and China hold gold acquired through off-the-books buying programs that far exceed what they officially claim:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cCentral Bank of Russia reported a gain of 30 metric tonnes in its gold reserves. That\u2019s after a year of flatlining more likely due to non-reporting than non-acquisition.
