Gold Rises<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"c-blog-article__content\">\n<p>The primary stages of grief include: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and finally, acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to grieving over the slow demise of the American economy, sovereign IOU\/USD and the absolute failure of our \u201cre-election-only-focused\u201d policy makers, these stages of grief are easy to see yet easier to ignore.<\/p>\n<p>But false hope won\u2019t help us.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h-denying-a-recession\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Denying a Recession<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the vast majority of sectors that make up the U.S. economy evidencing three months of negative GDP growth while a laundry list of leading homebuilder indicators (housing starts and prospective buyers) drops into recessionary red, I keep wondering when the recession debate will finally end.<\/p>\n<p>Walmart is worrying, Jamie Dimon is worrying, commercial real estate delinquencies are rising and IPO markets are all but dead on arrival.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-65341 jetpack-lazy-image jetpack-lazy-image--handled\" height=\"416\" data-lazy-loaded=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>But that\u2019s just the latest hard data.<\/p>\n<p>One can cite everything from the Conference Board of Leading Indicators, negative M2 growth, yield curve movements and a drying repo market to make it empirically clear that the US is not heading for recession but has already been in one for nearly a year.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, if we were to define a Depression by growth rates of inflation-adjusted GDP per capita, then factually speaking, we have also been in a quantifiable\u00a0<em>depression<\/em>\u00a0for the last 16 denial?<\/p>\n<p>I for one favor preparation over denial.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h-then-comes-the-anger\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Then Comes the Anger<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Citizens\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goldswitzerland.com\/history-repeating-itself\/\"><strong>storming the Capital<\/strong><\/a>, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goldswitzerland.com\/when-baseballs-guitars-say-more-than-pundits\/\"><strong>grabbing guitars<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and singing \u201cI\u2019m taxed to no end and my dollar aint
