Here&#8217;s why.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"inner-article-img\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/thecradle-main.oss-eu-central-1.aliyuncs.com\/public\/articles\/baa6240c-5baf-11ee-ab4f-00163e02c055.webp\" alt=\"\" \/>Photo Credit: The Cradle<\/div>\n<div class=\"inner-article-content\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8 col-sm-7\">\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is a massive public diplomacy op\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/india-news\/indiamiddle-east-europe-corridor-to-become-cornerstone-of-global-trade-pm-modi-101695541130145.html\">launched<\/a>\u00a0at the recent G20 summit in New Delhi, complete with a memorandum of understanding signed on 9 September.<\/p>\n<p>Players include the US, India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the EU, with a special role for the latter\u2019s top three powers Germany, France, and Italy. It\u2019s a multimodal railway project, coupled with trans-shipments and with ancillary digital and electricity roads extending to Jordan and Israel.<\/p>\n<p>If this walks and talks like the collective west\u2019s very late response to China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched 10 years ago and celebrating a Belt and Road Forum in Beijing next month, that\u2019s because it is. And yes, it is, above all, yet another American project to bypass China, to be claimed for crude electoral purposes as a meager foreign policy \u201csuccess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one among the Global Majority remembers that the Americans came up with their own Silk Road plan way back in 2010. The concept came from the State Department\u2019s Kurt Campbell and was sold by then-Secretary Hillary Clinton as her idea. History is implacable, it came down to nought.<\/p>\n<p>And no one among the Global Majority remembers the New Silk Road plan peddled by Poland, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Georgia in the early 2010s, complete with four troublesome trans-shipments in the Black Sea and the Caspian.
