{"id":65732,"date":"2023-09-02T04:47:04","date_gmt":"2023-09-02T09:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=65732"},"modified":"2023-09-02T04:47:04","modified_gmt":"2023-09-02T09:47:04","slug":"epa-finds-toxic-forever-chemicals-in-water-systems-across-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=65732","title":{"rendered":"EPA Finds Toxic \u2018Forever Chemicals\u2019 in Water Systems Across the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"sm:title-bold font-source my-2 text-[25px] font-medium leading-[30px] sm:text-[45px] sm:font-bold sm:leading-[54px]\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/epa-finds-toxic-forever-chemicals-in-water-systems-across-the-us-5475913?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge&amp;src_src=partner&amp;src_cmp=ZeroHedge\">EPA Finds Toxic \u2018Forever Chemicals\u2019 in Water Systems Across the US<\/a><\/h3>\n<div id=\"post_content\" class=\"post_content\" data-post-content=\"true\">\n<p>The Environmental Protection Agency discovered toxic, cancer-causing \u201cforever chemicals\u201d in water systems across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Aug. 17 finding comes after the U.S. Geological Survey found in July that perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl chemicals known as PFAS, were found in 45 percent\u00a0of water taps in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The EPA&#8217;s separate findings are the latest evidence that these controversial chemicals are widespread in the environment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"border-comp-divider mb-4 mr-4 w-full max-w-[500px] border px-5 py-4 text-[16px] leading-[20px] text-[#262626] md:float-left\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>PFASs are called \u201cforever chemicals\u201d because they build up and accumulate in a person\u2019s body over time instead of breaking down and have\u00a0been linked to a number of serious illnesses, including cancer and birth defects.<\/p>\n<p>The chemicals are water resistant and do not break down in the environment and can remain in human bodies for years.<\/p>\n<p>The EPA reported that the toxins\u00a0could affect the drinking water of 26 million people, according to an environmental advocacy organization called the Environmental Working Group\u00a0which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewg.org\/news-insights\/news-release\/2023\/08\/epa-pfas-drinking-water-crisis-worse-previously-reported\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">analyzed<\/a>\u00a0the latest agency data.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper \">\n<div class=\"border-comp-divider clear-both border-t pt-6 mb-4 grid\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The federal regulator\u00a0said (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2023-08\/ucmr5-data-summary_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) that two of the most dangerous types of forever chemicals, known as PFOA and PFOS,\u00a0were also found at\u00a0unsafe levels in between 7.8 and 8.5 percent of public water systems.<\/p>\n<p>PFASs are used in hundreds of household items from cleaning supplies to pizza boxes, which broadens the chance of serious health risks, according to the USGS study.<\/p>\n<p>They were developed in the 1940s with the creation of Teflon, a non-stick coating for cookware, and are now used in everything from clothing, plastic products, cosmetics, and stain removers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forever Chemicals Contamination Common Nationwide<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The EPA said the cities that had the high concentration of these toxic chemicals were Fresno, California, and Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Samples from Fresno had 16 parts per trillion of PFOA and 29 parts per trillion of PFOS, which was 4 and 7.25 times more than the EPA&#8217;s proposed regulatory limit and\u00a0194.3 parts per trillion for PFAS particles.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EPA Finds Toxic \u2018Forever Chemicals\u2019 in Water Systems Across the US The Environmental Protection Agency discovered toxic, cancer-causing \u201cforever chemicals\u201d in water systems across the country.
