That beat the previous highs on\u2026\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2023\/jul\/05\/tuesday-was-worlds-hottest-day-on-record-breaking-mondays-record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">July 3 and 4<\/a>! June was the hottest month ever, but July is shaping up to be even hotter. Experts expect more records to break over the next while, as an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/climate\/el-nino-wmo-canada-1.6896590\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El Ni\u00f1o<\/a>\u00a0weather pattern combines with record emissions to drive up temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have never seen anything like this before,\u201d Carlo Buontempo, director of Europe\u2019s Copernicus Climate Change Service,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/weather\/2023\/07\/06\/earth-record-heat-climate-extremes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told the\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em><\/a>, noting that \u201cwe are in uncharted territory.\u201d Temperatures are hotter than they\u2019ve been in 125,000 years!<\/p>\n<p>People\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rabble.ca\/environment\/most-people-want-climate-action-we-need-to-speak-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worldwide<\/a>\u00a0are feeling the effects, with scorching heat from Africa to Europe, across China and the southern U.S. Records are even breaking in Antarctica, where warming drove sea ice to 17 per cent below the 1991-2020 June average. In Canada, May was the hottest month ever, until June recorded even higher temperatures. We see the results in air congested with wildfire smoke.<\/p>\n<p>Heat and humidity are already causing an increasing number of direct deaths, along with numerous other negative impacts \u2014 floods, droughts, wildfires, refugee crises, water shortages, biodiversity loss and more.<\/p>\n<p>How bad does it have to get before the world wakes up?<\/p>\n<p>Unless we reject the widespread power and influence of the fossil fuel industry in all aspects of our lives, we could reach the point of no return before we employ the many available and emerging solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Industry puts massive resources into convincing people that curbing the crisis will cause too much hardship.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2023\/jul\/06\/shell-boss-under-fire-for-saying-cutting-fossil-fuel-production-is-dangerous-wael-sawan-climate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shell chief executive Wael Sawan recently offered an example<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scorching climate records call for real solutions Renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation offer numerous advantages over fossil fuels beyond climate benefits.
