Guess who\u2019s the biggest welfare recipient in Mississippi state history. No, it\u2019s not a single mom with three kids or a homeless drug addict.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s Brett Favre, an American football hero.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s worth $100 million.<\/p>\n

Recently, a reporter named\u00a0Anna Wolfe<\/a>\u00a0won the Pulitzer Prize for uncovering the largest federal\u00a0embezzlement scandal<\/a>\u00a0to ever happen in Mississippi. It revolves around the legendary Favre, who pressured the state\u2019s welfare office to spend $77 million on volleyball facilities for his daughter, a student at Southern Miss. When confronted, Favre went out of his way to portray himself as a clueless victim. As\u00a0Sports Illustrated<\/a><\/em>\u00a0writes, Favre was \u201cobsessed with not paying for it himself\u2026 He was relentless in his pursuit of government money.\u201d He knew what he was doing. Favre didn\u2019t stop with volleyball, either. He went on to press the governor for more money, via business grants and speaker fees. He even sent texts making sure the public\u00a0didn\u2019t know<\/a>\u00a0\u201cwhere it came from.\u201d<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll have fun reading the texts between Brett Favre and the state\u2019s governor, Tate Reeves. It makes one thing painfully clear:<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re a star quarterback, you don\u2019t have to work very hard to get powerful politicians to raise money for anything you want. When Favre asked for the volleyball stadium the governor replied, \u201cWe will have that thing built before you know it. One thing I know how to do is raise money.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s interesting\u2026<\/p>\n

Mississippi routinely struggles to provide\u00a0safe drinking water<\/a> for its own citizens, many of whom live in extreme poverty. Last year residents in the state\u2019s capital went months without drinking water at all. The problem loomed for years as the state continually refused to upgrade and maintain their water treatment facilities…<\/p>\n
