No emissions, no limits, just the infinite power of the atom. Even M. King Hubbert, the renowned petroleum geologist who pointed out the reality of\u00a0<\/em><a class=\"ae jj\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@thehonestsorcerer\/peak-oil-is-back-with-a-vengeance-cdddd7fa1d12\" rel=\"noopener\"><em class=\"ki\">peak oil production<\/em><\/a><em class=\"ki\">, has seen it as an infinite and stable energy source. (Don\u2019t ask me how he could hold these two contradictory thoughts in his head at the same time.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p id=\"99af\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl hy jm b jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh hr bi kj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><span class=\"l kk kl km bm kn ko kp kq kr di\">T<\/span>oday we know \u2014 although many still try to\u00a0<a class=\"ae jj\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@thehonestsorcerer\/peak-oil-gets-admitted-eb0ea928e10\" rel=\"noopener\">deny<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 that he was spot on with his first observation. Oil is a finite resource and it\u2019s extraction follows a rise, peak, plateau and fall curve. Conventional oil (the scope of Hubbert\u2019s studies) has peaked around 2005, and is on a bumpy plateau ever since, with growth only provided by unconventional and increasingly difficult and energy expensive to get resources. June 1956.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>I\u2019ve mentioned in the introduction to this article how Hubbert has presented a glaring contradiction between the reality of peak oil and his expectations towards nuclear power supposedly providing us all the energy we need for countless millennia to come.
