The findings have the potential to transform the country\u2019s economy and secure its place as a major player in the global market for high-tech and green technology. He warned that\u00a0<strong>China has almost complete control of the market for rare earth metals<\/strong>\u00a0in his<a href=\"https:\/\/kknomics.no\/program\/aktiv-nringspolitikk-kanskal-staten-drive-business-87kms-knyzt\">\u00a0lecture<\/a>\u00a0on the topic during the K\u00c5K\u00c5nomics economics festival in Stavanger, Norway, in October 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The discovery in Norway was made during a routine survey of the region and was confirmed through extensive drilling and analysis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The deposits are believed to be among the largest of their kind in the world,<\/strong>\u00a0and the potential for further discoveries in the area is significant.<\/p>\n<p>The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npd.no\/en\/facts\/news\/general-news\/2023\/seabed-minerals-substantial-resources-on-the-norwegian-shelf\/\">responsible for conducting the research that led to the find<\/a>.\u00a0<em><strong>\u201cThe NPD has built up expertise over many years, in part through a number of expeditions. We\u2019ve mapped relevant areas, collected data, and taken large volumes of mineral samples,\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0said Kjersti Dahle, director, technology, analysis and coexistence at the NPD.<\/p>\n<p>NPD\u2019s research shows that there is a large area of the Norwegian continental shelf with significant mineral resources, particularly in the deep sea, where several of these minerals are concentrated.
