(Mike Blake\/Reuters)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"author_date_tools\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"post_content\">\n<div class=\"aplayer_app\" data-source=\"https:\/\/vs1.youmaker.com\/assets\/2023\/0120\/8ab85069-94ab-421d-97e9-2c89fd174ce9\/audio.mp3?length=4171725&amp;duration=348\">\n<div class=\"RNgXV73f5mbgXSYq9GUc\">\n<div class=\"Fb2_LSme0PGd0Pp7agiA\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Californians are expecting skyrocketing natural gas bills this month, but this can\u2019t all be blamed on the weather, according to industry insiders.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), which serves about 5.9 million households and businesses,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/shockingly-high-gas-bills-coming-to-southern-california-in-january-socalgas_4968240.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a>\u00a0customers to expect \u201cshockingly high\u201d January bills that could be 128 percent higher compared to December.<\/p>\n<p>Those who typically paid around $65 a month last winter are likely to pay about $160 this year, SoCalGas said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.socalgas.com\/stories\/a-note-to-our-customers-high-bills-may-come-as-a-shock-in-january-but-we-have-some-tips-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement Dec. 29<\/a>. Those with bills around $130 a month could see charges jump to $315.<\/p>\n<p>Last December, wholesale natural gas prices already cost five times more than that of 2021. The utility also paid unprecedented prices for the supply in January, the company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.socalgas.com\/stories\/understanding-natural-gas-prices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-natural-gas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Natural gas<\/a>\u00a0prices rose in 2022 for five reasons, according to a biennial report (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.socalgas.com\/sites\/default\/files\/Joint_Utility_Biennial_Comprehensive_California_Gas_Report_2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) published by California Gas and Electric Utilities, a group of utility providers including SoCalGas, San Diego Gas &amp; Electric, and SoCal Edison.<\/p>\n<p>First, North American inventories fell below the five-year average last year.
