It could be expensive,&#8221; said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at the firm, which tracks fuel costs, in its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gasbuddy.com\/newsroom\/pressrelease\/2022\/12\/28\/1126\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-analytics-module=\"body_link\" data-analytics-post-depth=\"40\">2023 fuel outlook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The national average price of gas at the pump could top around $4 a gallon in most major US cities as early as May next year, De Haan said, from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-analytics-module=\"body_link\" data-analytics-post-depth=\"40\">$3.18 on Friday<\/a>.
