{"id":6458,"date":"2015-03-13T05:49:16","date_gmt":"2015-03-13T10:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=6458"},"modified":"2015-03-13T05:49:16","modified_gmt":"2015-03-13T10:49:16","slug":"fracking-firm-igas-refuses-further-investigation-into-possible-site-contamination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=6458","title":{"rendered":"Fracking Firm IGas Refuses Further Investigation into Possible Site Contamination"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmog.uk\/2015\/03\/13\/fracking-firm-igas-refuses-further-investigation-possible-site-contamination\" target=\"_blank\">Fracking Firm IGas Refuses Further Investigation into Possible Site Contamination<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>An environmental expert has been stopped by fracking firm\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">IG<\/span>as and landowners Peel Holdings from further investigating possible chemical contamination at the company\u2019s Barton Moss drilling plant, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/greater-manchester-news\/barton-moss-fracking-high-levels-8791016\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester Magistrates Court heard<\/a>\u00a0recently.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eggconsult.co.uk\/staff-affiliates\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Aiden Foley<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eggconsult.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"caps\">EGG<\/span>\u00a0Consultants<\/a>\u00a0presented a report to the court showing \u201cdangerously high\u201d levels of contamination near the perimeter fence of the test drilling site in Eccles,\u00a0Salford.<\/p>\n<p>However, even though Foley\u2019s report claims that the pollution was unlikely to have come from the drilling process and was probably from the equipment involved, he remains unable to obtain further evidence for his\u00a0investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the pollutant\u2019s origins, it is important that access is granted, as the contamination could spread to the wider local environment, the judge heard on 6\u00a0March.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Difficult\u00a0Dilemma<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But in an interesting turn of fate,\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">IG<\/span>as\u2019s ban on entering the site could also result in many anti-fracking activists having cases against them\u00a0dropped.<\/p>\n<p>Foley was commissioned by Robert Lizar Solicitors to carry out his investigation in a wider effort to help defend some 60 anti-fracking protesters they are\u00a0representing.<\/p>\n<p>If Foley continues to be blocked from the site, the lawyer representing the protesters charged with aggravated trespass, argues that their cases should be thrown out as they would not be getting a fair\u00a0trial.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fracking Firm IGas Refuses Further Investigation into Possible Site Contamination An environmental expert has been stopped by fracking firm\u00a0IGas and landowners Peel Holdings from further investigating possible chemical contamination at the company\u2019s Barton Moss drilling plant, the\u00a0Manchester Magistrates Court heard\u00a0recently.
