Since an unemployment rate of 5 percent is considered to be \u201cfull employment\u201d by many economists, many in the mainstream media took this as a sign that the U.S. economy has almost fully \u201crecovered\u201d since the last recession.\u00a0 In fact, according to the Wall Street Journal, some Federal Reserve officials believe that \u201c<a title=\"the U.S. economy is already at full employment\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/economics\/2015\/03\/06\/some-fed-officials-think-the-u-s-economy-is-already-at-full-employment\/\" target=\"_blank\">the U.S. economy is already at full employment<\/a>\u201c.\u00a0 But how can this possibly be?\u00a0 It certainly does not square with reality.\u00a0 Personally, I know people that have been struggling with unemployment for years and that still cannot find a decent job.\u00a0 And I get emails from readers all the time that are heartbroken because they are suffering through extended periods of unemployment.\u00a0 So what in the world is going on?\u00a0 How can the government be telling us that we are nearly at \u201cfull employment\u201d when so many people can\u2019t find work?\u00a0 Could it be possible that the government numbers are misleading?<\/p>\n<p>It is my contention that the official \u201cunemployment rate\u201d has become so politicized and so manipulated that it is essentially meaningless at this point.\u00a0 The following are 10 reasons why\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>#1<\/strong>\u00a0Since February 2008, the size of the U.S. population has grown by 16.8 million people, but the number of full-time jobs has actually\u00a0<strong>decreased<\/strong>\u00a0<a title=\"by 140,000\" href=\"http:\/\/econimica.blogspot.com\/2015\/03\/amazing-math-from-bureau-of-labor.html\" target=\"_blank\">by 140,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2<\/strong>\u00a0The percentage of working age Americans that have a job right now is still about the same as it was during the depths of the last recession.\u00a0 Posted below is a chart that shows how the employment-population ratio has changed since the beginning of the decade.\u00a0 Does this look like a full-blown \u201cemployment recovery\u201d to you?\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly At \u2018Full Employment\u2019? 10 Reasons Why The Unemployment Numbers Are A Massive Lie On Friday, we learned that the official \u201cunemployment rate\u201d has fallen to 5.5 percent.
