{"id":63246,"date":"2022-08-06T09:43:20","date_gmt":"2022-08-06T14:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=63246"},"modified":"2022-08-06T09:43:20","modified_gmt":"2022-08-06T14:43:20","slug":"green-technocracys-dirty-secret","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=63246","title":{"rendered":"Green technocracy\u2019s dirty secret"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-cover-head\">\n<div class=\"single-post-thumb single-has-thumb\">\n<div class=\"post-cover-title\">\n<h3 class=\"name post-title entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consciousnessofsheep.co.uk\/2022\/07\/27\/green-technocracys-dirty-secret\/\">Green technocracy\u2019s dirty secret<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content post-cover\">\n<article id=\"the-post\" class=\"post-listing post-8131 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail  category-energy\">\n<div class=\"post-inner\">\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<section id=\"related_posts\">\n<div class=\"post-listing\">\n<div class=\"related-item tie_thumb\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>Germany is in trouble.\u00a0 The IMF has revised its projected growth figures down to just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imf.org\/en\/News\/Articles\/2022\/07\/21\/cf-germany-faces-weaker-growth-amid-energy-concerns\">1.2 percent for 2022<\/a>.\u00a0 Even this may prove to be optimistic now that gas imports from Russia have dropped to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-62318376\">just 20 percent<\/a>\u00a0of what was anticipated prior to the EU sanctions.\u00a0 With autumn approaching, German industry is anticipating power outages while the population looks forward to food and energy shortages.<\/p>\n<p>The cuts in gas supplies \u2013 resulting, apparently, from Canada refusing to return essential turbines following repair \u2013 mean that Germany has no chance of building up its gas storage before winter arrives.\u00a0 And, of course, it is possible that the Russian state will use this moment of weakness to cut supplies even further.\u00a0 After all, most of the future gas which would have gone to Europe has since been sold to Asian states instead.<\/p>\n<p>Inevitably then, German \u2013 and western \u2013 media outlets will spend much of the winter talking about \u201cPutin\u2019s energy cuts.\u201d\u00a0 In reality, it is the European technocracy and its puppet politicians who bear the greater responsibility.\u00a0 After all, it is they who have spent the last three decades leaving Europe vulnerable to precisely this kind of supply shock.\u00a0 As Lea Booth at\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/quillette.com\/2022\/07\/14\/germanys-energy-catastrophe\/\">Quillette<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>argues:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe truth is that the Energiewende was doomed to fail from the start. Germany bet big on solar and wind and shut down their nuclear plants when they should have forgone renewables and expanded their nuclear energy program instead.
