Picture date: Tuesday July 19, 2022.<\/div>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbedCredit\">Owen Humphreys | Pa Images | Getty Images<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>LONDON \u2014 Britain recorded its hottest-ever day Tuesday, with temperatures hitting a high of 40.3 degrees Celsius (104.5 degrees Fahrenheit) in the east of England, as London\u2019s fire service tackled several blazes across the capital.<\/p>\n<p>The provisional figures from the U.K.\u2019s weather service showed Coningsby, Lincolnshire, hit the new high Tuesday afternoon, surpassing two new records set earlier in the day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>The country\u2019s previous hottest temperature was 38.7C, recorded in Cambridge in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as Brits face the second day of an extreme heatwave, which is causing widespread disruption and raising the risk of wildfires.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf confirmed this will be the highest temperature ever recorded in the UK.\u00a0Temperatures are likely to rise further through today,\u201d the Met Office said on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures were forecast to hit as high as 42C in parts of England by Tuesday afternoon, according to the Met Office, which issued a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/about-us\/press-office\/news\/weather-and-climate\/2022\/red-extreme-heat-warning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">red extreme heat warning<\/a>.
