Fahimi, the head of the German Federation of Trade Unions, told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/m.bild.de\/politik\/inland\/politik-inland\/dgb-chefin-der-staat-muss-die-energiepreise-jetzt-deckeln-80581544.bildMobile.html###wt_ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F&amp;wt_t=1656900452468\" data-analytics-module=\"body_link\">Bild am Sonntag.<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;Such a collapse would have massive consequences for the entire economy and jobs in Germany.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The chemical industry, which employs about 346,000 people, is the third-largest industry in Germany, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gtai.de\/resource\/blob\/64542\/9936fdacfc31ec29ebeff9224e2d1141\/TheChemicalIndustryGermany.pdf\" data-analytics-module=\"body_link\">Germany Trade &amp; Invest,<\/a>\u00a0the country&#8217;s investment promotion agency.<\/p>\n<p>Germany \u2014 Europe&#8217;s largest economy \u2014\u00a0 is reliant on piped natural gas from Russia, which accounts for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/germany-doesnt-want-too-successful-replacing-russian-natural-gas-renewables-2022-6\" data-analytics-module=\"body_link\" data-analytics-post-depth=\"60\" data-uri=\"b3d004c32a9f44e0dfafdb91f915520f\">35% of its imports of the fuel.<\/a>\u00a0The industrial powerhouse imports almost all of the natural gas it uses, which accounts for about a quarter of the country&#8217;s total energy mix, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwk.de\/Redaktion\/EN\/Dossier\/conventional-energy-sources.html\" data-analytics-module=\"body_link\" data-analytics-post-depth=\"60\" data-uri=\"a3ec94bcde82c59b5d95220fd304ee08\">economy ministry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The country&#8217;s energy crisis is already driving inflation to record highs, which threatens social stability, Fahimi told Bild am Sonntag.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/russia-cuts-gas-supply-germany-siemens-equipment-stuck-canada-sanctions-2022-6\" data-analytics-module=\"body_link\">Russian state gas giant Gazprom<\/a>\u00a0has already cut gas flows to Germany\u00a0via the key Nord Stream 1 pipeline by 60% from last month, citing an equipment hold-up in Canada as a result of sanctions over the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Entire industries in Germany could collapse due to Russian natural-gas supply cuts: union head Germany&#8217;s Economic Minister Robert Habeck speaks to press in Dusseldorf, Germany.\u00a0Roberto Pfeil &#8211;
