href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/dannyhaiphong\/22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">imposed a weeklong suspension<\/a>\u00a0on the account of writer and political activist Danny Haiphong for a\u00a0<a class=\"au ko\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/wgKle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">thread he made<\/a>\u00a0on the platform disputing the mainstream Tiananmen Square massacre narrative.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7a83\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jq jr ii js b jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The notification Haiphong received informed him that Twitter had locked his account for \u201cViolating our rules against abuse and harassment,\u201d presumably in reference to a rule the platform\u00a0<a class=\"au ko\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/twittersafety\/status\/1399863970371039232\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">put in place a year ago<\/a>\u00a0which prohibits \u201ccontent that denies that mass murder or other mass casualty events took place, where we can verify that the event occured, and when the content is shared with abusive intent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"7565\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jq jr ii js b jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\u201cThis may include references to such an event as a \u2018hoax\u2019 or claims that victims or survivors are fake or \u2018actors,\u2019\u201d Twitter\u00a0<a class=\"au ko\" href=\"https:\/\/help.twitter.com\/en\/rules-and-policies\/abusive-behavior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">said<\/a>\u00a0of the new rule. \u201cIt includes, but is not limited to, events like the Holocaust, school shootings, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"7d0e\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jq jr ii js b jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">That we are now seeing this rule applied to protect narratives which support the geostrategic interests of the US-centralized empire is not in the least bit surprising.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kq kr ks kt ga jj\">\n<div class=\"m l dq\">\n<div class=\"wy kv l\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"gh aq as ag cf\" title=\"Benjamin Norton on Twitter: &quot;The US government thought police at Twitter locked journalist Danny Haiphong @SpiritofHo's account, threatening to suspend him because he contradicted the Western propaganda narrative on Tiananmen, calling it &quot;abuse&quot;.There is only &quot;free speech&quot; for US regime propagandists here pic.twitter.com\/t9CeCGIBeK \/ Twitter&quot;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liberationnews.org\/tiananmen-the-massacre-that-wasnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">far from the first<\/a>\u00a0to dispute the mainstream western narrative about exactly what happened around Tiananmen Square in June of 1989 as the Soviet Union was crumbling and Washington\u2019s temporary Cold War alignment with Beijing was\u00a0<a class=\"au ko\" href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.substack.com\/p\/the-us-empires-ultimate-target-is?s=w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">losing its strategic usefulness<\/a>. But we can expect more acts of online censorship like this as Silicon Valley continues to expand into its role as guardian of imperial historic records.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5c1b\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jq jr ii js b jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">This idea that government-tied Silicon Valley institutions should act as arbiters of history on behalf of the public consumer is gaining steadily increasing acceptance in the artificially manufactured echo chamber of mainstream public opinion.
