Is the Future Already Written?<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Generally speaking the future is impossible to tell. The story of us could take many different paths branching into ever different versions of its current self. There are an infinite number futures, which we shape and select every day, every hour, every minute with our conscious decisions, our actions and deeds. We make our choices based on free will and select the right or wrong path ahead of us based on morals and ethics.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

The bad news is, that this is only a myth, incompatible with the laws of physics.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Living in an illusion<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having self-consciousness comes with certain limitations and a good deal of illusions to help us disregard those limits. Through what appears to be a cause and effect relationship however\u2014 like having a desire to eat an apple, then grabbing one from the kitchen table \u2014\u00a0it makes us believe that it is us who are making conscious decisions\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>resulting in deliberate action.<\/p>\n

The hard truth is that there is neither \u2018you\u2019 or \u2018I\u2019, \u2018us\u2019 or \u2018them\u2019 in this story, nor there was a \u2018conscious decision\u2019 in the first place. There is no need for those. We\u2019ve lived without these concepts for many millennia just fine, so do our fellow animal companions we share this planet with. Pronouns are mere artifacts of our language accidentally \u2018invented\u2019 together with the story of an \u2018independent self\u2019. One, which is free to decide what to do, where to go, whom to talk to. One, which has a\u00a0free will\u00a0<\/em>to do so. The problem is that this idea is\u00a0fully incompatible with the laws of nature and physics<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 and thus can safely be called an illusion.<\/p>\n

Sorry to disappoint you, but you neither have free will \u2014 and as you will see \u2014 nor a separate independent self.<\/p>\n
