Pakistan is the latest country to experience paralyzing inflation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-04-18\/cash-strapped-pakistan-cuts-power-to-households-on-fuel-shortage#:~:text=Pakistan%20is%20cutting%20electricity%20to,to%20fuel%20its%20power%20plants.\">Bloomberg<\/a>\u00a0reports almost a fifth of electricity generation capacity is offline in the South Asian country because some power plants struggle to purchase liquefied natural gas and coal due to record high prices.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan&#8217;s energy costs have doubled to $15 billion in the last nine months ended February from a year earlier. The country has struggled with purchasing energy products to fuel its power plants since the conflict in Ukraine exacerbated commodity shortages, sending prices to record highs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Snag_de6401c.png?itok=krzPapVV\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Snag_de6401c.png?itok=krzPapVV\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/Snag_de6401c.png?itok=krzPapVV\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"181\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"2d1a67bd-88bb-4828-8b87-770982a158b7\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Miftah Ismail, appointed as finance minister by new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, tweeted that 3,500 megawatts worth of power capacity are offline due to fuel shortages, and a similar amount is due to technical faults. Still, it raises near-term policy turmoil even as the country faces fiscal challenges from soaring commodity prices.<\/p>\n<p>It could only be a matter of time before rolling power blackouts, soaring food and fuel prices incite unrest. This is already happening around the world in the weakest of countries.<\/p>\n<p>The tiny island nation of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/sri-lanka-warns-foreign-debt-default-save-dollars-amid-socio-economic-crisis\">Sri Lanka<\/a>\u00a0in the Indian Ocean and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/inflation-protests-erupt-across-peru-president-imposes-curfew-calls-military\">Peru<\/a>\u00a0have already experienced unrest because of rapid inflation.
