This has caused officials at the Interior Department to propose holding back water at the dam to maintain the dam&#8217;s ability to generate power.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/chart_14.png?itok=BPLMUEZZ\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/chart_14.png?itok=BPLMUEZZ\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/chart_14.png?itok=BPLMUEZZ\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"336fe070-8047-4f00-97a8-330c09733d04\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tanya Trujillo, the Interior&#8217;s assistant secretary, warned if Lake Powell drops below 3,490 feet (1,063 meters), it will produce electrical grid uncertainty for the western part of the US, potentially affecting up to five million customers across Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>&#8220;We&#8217;re in crisis management, and health and human safety issues, including production of hydropower, are taking precedence,&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>said Jack Schmidt, director of the Center for Colorado River Studies at Utah State University.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The record low water level also comes as researchers have found the US West has been experiencing some of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/weather\/us-western-megadrought-worst-1200-years-scientist-warn\">driest conditions in more than 1,200 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Over the decade, drought conditions have worsened. Several major Californian reservoirs have dried up, forcing people to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/weather\/houseboats-evacuated-californias-lake-oroville-amid-megadrought\">evacuate<\/a>\u00a0their boats and causing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/weather\/lake-oroville-hydro-power-plant-shut-down-first-time-due-megadrought\">hydroelectric plants<\/a>\u00a0to shutter due to insufficient water supplies to spin turbines.<\/p>\n<p>Reservoirs across California are well below their historical averages (as of Apr. 14).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2022-04-16_08-12-30.png?itok=uqB7C_-X\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2022-04-16_08-12-30.png?itok=uqB7C_-X\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2022-04-16_08-12-30.png?itok=uqB7C_-X\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"636\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"52aae7bc-eaeb-451f-8e66-a4470abbf9b8\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the US Drought Monitor data, the US West is experiencing severe to extreme drought conditions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2022-04-16_08-23-45.png?itok=XITqdun0\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2022-04-16_08-23-45.png?itok=XITqdun0\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2022-04-16_08-23-45.png?itok=XITqdun0\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"405\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"167e7921-dc21-48cc-a9c3-e56ea1a82754\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>New forecasts by federal government meteorologists may suggest drought conditions could deteriorate even more as there&#8217;s a 59% chance of La Ni\u00f1a for the Northern Hemisphere through summer.
