Gravitational pull<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>MANAGING THE REALITY OF \u2018LIFE AFTER ORTHODOXY\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A new \u2018heavenly body\u2019 has entered the cosmology of political and corporate decision. This new influence is the emerging reality that the economy is turning out, after all, to be an energy system, and that long-accepted ideas to the contrary are fallacious.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0<em>concept of limits<\/em>\u00a0is replacing the paradigm of \u2018infinite growth\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Where decision-making is concerned, this emerging reality isn\u2019t likely to have an immediately transformational effect. Established nostrums can have a tenacity that long out-lasts the demonstration of their falsity.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not, then, about to see sudden, open and actioned acceptance of the fact that the economy is an energy rather than a monetary system.<\/p>\n<p>Rather, we can expect to see energy reality exert an increasing\u00a0<em>gravitational pull<\/em>\u00a0on the tide of decisions and planning, most obviously in government and business. Policy statements may not change, but the thinking that informs planning and strategy undoubtedly will.<\/p>\n<p>This gravitational effect is starting, as of now, to re-shape perceptions of the present, change ensuing \u201cnarratives\u201d of the future, and trigger a process of realignment towards the implications of a world with meaningful constraints.<\/p>\n<p>The aim here is to examine the practical consequences of a contest of interpretations which, whilst it has already been decided at the\u00a0<em>theoretical<\/em>\u00a0level, leaves \u2018everything to play for\u2019 in political and commercial practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And then there was one<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are, essentially, two ways in which we can seek to explain the working of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>One of these is the conventional or\u00a0<em>orthodox<\/em>\u00a0school of thought, which presents economics as a process determined by the behaviour of\u00a0<strong>money<\/strong>, and acknowledges\u00a0<strong>no\u00a0<\/strong>limits to the potential for growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#225.
