Forecasters expect little to no rain for certain parts of the western U.S. through June.<\/p>\n<p>From April to June, above-average temperatures are expected from Southwest to the East Coast and north through the Midwest, according to a new outlook\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/news\/spring-outlook-drought-to-expand-amid-warmer-conditions\">published<\/a>\u00a0by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).<\/p>\n<p>NOAA&#8217;s map shows a greater than 50% chance of drought persistence for nearly 60% of the continental U.S.<\/p>\n<div class=\"AdvertisingSlot_desktop__lDlm4 AdvertisingSlot_tablet__MndqJ AdvertisingSlot_mobile__7vsEF AdvertisingSlot_placement__b8TLC AdvertisingSlot_align__800B1\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/drought_1.png?itok=dO-ZTrLm\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/drought_1.png?itok=dO-ZTrLm\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/drought_1.png?itok=dO-ZTrLm\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"329\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"8001ffac-0e3d-4739-b993-d47fc00604ab\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Severe to exceptional drought has persisted in some areas of the West since the summer of 2020, and drought has expanded to the southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley,&#8221; said Jon Gottschalck, chief, Operational Prediction Branch, NOAA&#8217;s Climate Prediction Center.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00a0&#8220;With nearly 60% of the continental U.S. experiencing minor to exceptional drought conditions, this is the largest drought coverage we&#8217;ve seen in the U.S. since 2013,&#8221; Gottschalck said.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The outlook also noted more than 50% of the U.S. will experience above-average temperatures this spring, with the greatest chances in the Southern Rockies and Southern Plains.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/droughtmonitor.unl.edu\/\">U.S. Drought Monitor<\/a>, at least 90% of nine western states are plagued with dry conditions, including all of California, Nevada, and Utah, and 99% of New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2022-03-19_12-28-49.png?itok=zAIsH3GY\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2022-03-19_12-28-49.png?itok=zAIsH3GY\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2022-03-19_12-28-49.png?itok=zAIsH3GY\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"345\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"245017c4-1dbb-4551-bae2-394d1cbb4735\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>NOAA&#8217;s latest forecast doesn&#8217;t bode well for the western U.S. farm industry as it could very well suggest the multiyear mega-drought (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/weather\/us-western-megadrought-worst-1200-years-scientist-warn\">one of the worst in 1,200 years<\/a>) could begin to impact the U.S. food supply and comes at a very inopportune time as the Russian invasion of Ukraine has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/commodities\/these-charts-show-russias-invasion-choking-world-natural-resources\">choked the world of natural resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. and world are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/commodities\/media-isnt-warning-you-america-careening-towards-food-crisis\">careening towards<\/a>\u00a0a food crisis.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/commodities\/will-victory-gardens-make-comeback-global-food-crisis-worsens\">Perhaps it&#8217;s time to plant a garden<\/a>\u00a0and become independent as national and global food supply chains may begin to breakdown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NOAA Warns US Megadrought Will Persist; May Impact Food Supply Chains Abnormally dry to exceptional drought conditions are expected to persist across 60% of the continental U.S. as spring in the Northern Hemisphere begins.
